THE SOUTH ISLAND SECONDARY SCHOOLS EQUESTRIAN EVENT IS COMING!

And I’m excited to be heading along! Are you???!!

Next Tuesday and Wednesday, 1 & 2 September, you’ll find the Equine Mementos trade stall at the Dunstan Horsefeeds National Equestrian Centre in Christchurch as part of the South Island Secondary Schools Equestrian Cup.

This is such a fantastic event — young riders, their horses and ponies, schools coming together and plenty of equestrian action.

If you’re there, come and say hello!

I’ll have a selection of the Equine Mementos range with me, so it’s the perfect opportunity to see the jewelry and keepsakes in person, have a chat about what I do and perhaps start planning something special for your own horse.

Some exciting news...

Equine Mementos has officially been granted a BUY NZ MADE license.

This means from now on, you'll start seeing the NEW ZEALAND MADE tags on the products in my range that are made right here in New Zealand.

I do still import a small amount of product, so not everything is made in NZ but I am making it really easy for you to know the difference.

When you see the BUY NZ MADE logo, you will know that piece has been made here in New Zealand.

So if buying local is important to you, keep an eye out for that little Kiwi logo when you are choosing your next Equine Mementos keepsake.

Still feeling a little overwhelmed by this one…

On Friday night, Equine Mementos was named Runner Up in the ANZ People’s Choice Award at the 2026 South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce Business & Community Excellence Awards.

I’m not sure I can properly put into words what this means to me.

Equine Mementos is a very small business, based in a rural corner of New Zealand. It’s just me, in my studio, creating precious keepsakes from the hair of much-loved horses.

So when I look at that Runner Up award, I don’t just see an award.

I see a whole community of people who took the time to get behind a little business they believe in.

And that is what makes a People’s Choice Award so incredibly special.

It isn’t decided by a judging panel or a business case. It is decided by people — by the customers, friends, horse lovers, supporters and communities who choose to stand behind a business.

For Equine Mementos, that feels particularly fitting.

This business has always been built around connection, trust, horses and people. Every piece I make represents someone's story, and it is the support of people that allows me to keep doing what I love.

To everyone who voted, shared my posts, encouraged others to vote, sent messages, or simply followed along and cheered me on…

Ngā mihi nui.

You have shown me exactly what can happen when a small rural NZ business has a very big community behind it.

I am incredibly proud of what Equine Mementos has achieved, and genuinely humbled by the support that made this possible.

Two sisters woven together forever.

This beautiful locket was created for a special reason - to hold the hair of sisters.

Being entrusted with something so personal is a privilege I never take lightly. Every strand carries memories, connection and a piece of someone who is deeply loved.

I was especially touched to be able to hand this keepsake over to its owner over the most recent Matariki weekend.

Matariki is a time for remembering those who have passed, honouring the present and looking towards the future. It felt so fitting that this piece could begin its journey home at such a special time of remembrance and connection.
