Nikki Walter is a part time artist and a full time mother of two high maintenance boys, who is based in South Canterbury. Art has always been a passion but so were maths and science, which lead to the completion of an engineering degree in 2000, after the birth of her first child she rediscovered her love of art and painting as a hobby. The diagnosis of her son with autism lead to a few life changes and painting became more than just a hobby. For the last decade Nikki has been painting as often as she can, art provides a time to destress and take a break from the chaos of life.
Nikki Walter is largely self-taught, early in her painting career she discovered a love for the classical painting techniques of the old masters. The methodical approach of building layers is extremely appealing to an artist who has a slightly more dominant left-brain. After years of trial and error Nikki now works solely with high quality oil paints on canvas or Belgium linen to achieve detailed, realistic and radiant paintings. Creating floral, still life and portrait paintings are Nikki’s passion and creating timeless pieces of art is her ambition.
