Environment Te Puke's mission is to work towards the preservation and enhancement of our natural environment for the benefit of current and future generations; to promote public awareness and participation in caring for Te Puke's environment. Our vision for 2027
Pest-Free Te Puke connects the mountains with the sea through accessible parks and reserves that are linked by walkways and connecting areas of natural bush. Our residents send the lowest amount of waste to landfill on a kg per person per annum basis. Te Puke has a diverse range of attractive trees that encourage native birds into our town centre where they are seen and their musical birdsong is constantly heard.

Biosecurity New Zealand is urging Aucklanders to be on the lookout for yellow-legged hornets (Vespa velutina) following the discovery of a queen hornet in the early stages of building a nest in the suburb of Glenfield.

The yellow-legged hornet is a biosecurity concern due to its potential impact on honeybee and wild bee populations.

For information on what to keep an eye out for, see our factsheet: https://bit.ly/3Lrep8E

Any potential sightings of the yellow-legged hornet or a nest should be photographed, and reported online at https://bit.ly/3LreqcI or by calling our exotic pest and disease hotline 0800 80 99 66.
