A HUGE P**I P**I TO ALL OUR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS FOR TERM 3!
Learning the craft of screen acting is no easy feat. As an actor, you must understand your role, interpret scripts, find truth in imaginary circumstances, and learn how to truly listen, feel and engage.
Unlike theatre, screen acting often requires us to do less, not more. It's about allowing the emotion to exist internally rather than feeling the need to demonstrate it. It's about being completely vulnerable, finding strength in that vulnerability, and being brave enough to make mistakes, take risks and sometimes completely embarrass yourself in front of your peers. That's how we grow as actors!
The screen acting industry is incredibly rewarding, but it's also a challenging industry to be part of. One of our greatest joys at BOPAS is watching our students develop their craft, gain confidence, sign with agents and eventually see their wonderful faces appearing on television and in films. We couldn't be prouder of what we've created here in Tauranga.
Term 3 was something quite special.
We took an incredibly in-depth look at how films are actually made, exploring everyone's role in the process. From the directors and producers to the call sheets, the preparation, the long days, the tears, the laughter, the camaraderie and finally, the extraordinary feeling of seeing a completed film on screen.
What a crazy, wonderful term it has been!
A huge mihi to all our BOPAS students and teachers, and to everyone at Rātā Studios who joined us on this journey. You have all worked incredibly hard, and the films you've created are genuinely brilliant.
Judging this term was particularly difficult because the standard of work was so high. We are absolutely thrilled that so many wonderful people within the screen industry will have the opportunity to watch the films created by both BOPAS and Rātā Studios.
And that's what makes this so special. It's not just about learning lines or performing in front of a camera. It's about understanding the craft, respecting the filmmaking process, working together, taking creative risks and discovering what you're capable of.
To every student who showed up, pushed themselves, stepped outside their comfort zone and gave it everything — we see you, and we are so proud of you.
What a term. What a group of extraordinary young people and adults. And what a privilege it is to be part of your journey.
