Did you know?
Pizzica is one of the most ancient and powerful traditional dances of Puglia, in Southern Italy.
Rooted in the Salento region, this dance has been passed down through generations for centuries, accompanied by the hypnotic rhythm of tambourines, violin, accordion, and clapping hands. Historically, Pizzica was linked to the ritual of โtarantismoโ โ a healing tradition where music and dance were believed to cure the bite of the tarantula spider and free people from emotional suffering through movement, trance, and expression.
Over time, Pizzica evolved into a celebration of life, community, passion, and freedom. Its fast turns, grounded steps, and playful dialogue between dancers still carry the spirit and energy of Southern Italy today.
We would love to create a collaborative choreography inspired by traditional dances from around the world ๐๐๐
