My why?!
Creating this kaupapa was scary! I went from having a secure job to so much uncertainty. When my mate said this could be your calling, I laughed… fast forward to today and I’m so lucky to say… this is my calling, part of my reconnection to who I am. A space where I can ground myself in the craziness of this world… when you create, there is no other expectation than to tell your story through your artwork.! I have a story… with many layers…. Many ups and many downs…. Now I have a space to share them… through my mahi toi! This piece was created for my mum in law who we nursed through her cancer journey, the piece holds tight to all the memories we have with her and all the lessons we learnt through the years and the laughter!

Priceless Pingao!
Pingao is one of Aotearoa’s most treasured weaving materials.

Unlike many other weaving fibres, pingao doesn’t need to be boiled or dyed. As it cures it transforms into a stunning shade of rich golden yellow.

It’s a beautiful reminder that we don’t always need to change something to make it beautiful…. A reminder that we are enough exactly as we are!

Kia ora e te whānau, I thought it was time to introduce myself to those that are new to my page.
Ko Ange Moko tōku ingoa, no Kaihu ahau. My name is Ange and I whakapapa back to Kaihu and a little marae called Tama te uaua. On my dad’s side of the whānau. I have recently discovered our connection also extends to Panguru and the Waipuna marae. I have been an educator for the last 25 years and have spent my time working with teachers, communities, iwi and whānau to create places where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

Moko Made grew from a simple belief…. Our stories matter… our culture matters! When you get to experience culture, feel the wairua that flows from our mātauranga it is much easier to understand. Put simply when we create together we come to in ways words sometimes can’t. Through creating contemporary tukutuku panel with groups I have been privileged to sit amongst people who inspire me, teach me and love me!
