Why Original Artwork Matters at The Seasons Art Class

Original artwork is the foundation of genuine art education. When students learn from AI-generated demonstration pieces, they’re not learning real technique — they’re copying a computer’s guess at what art looks like, and it shows in the finished paintings, which tend to carry that same distinctive, artificial quality.

We understand the attraction: AI images are quick and free to produce, however, that simply won’t fly at The Seasons Art Class and we want to reassure you - that won’t be happening here.

Every Seasons project begins with an original demonstration piece commissioned from a professional artist. Our artists make genuine creative decisions about composition, colour, tone, perspective, mark-making and technique.

We then develop their artwork into carefully structured teaching materials and training videos for our team. Equipped with these resources, our tutors deliver live demonstrations in class, teaching genuine artistic techniques while encouraging every student to retain their own individual style.

Our students learn from real artists and authentic creative processes, not by copying pre-painted AI-generated imagery. It’s so disheartening to see student painting influenced by poor quality, over saturated, odd looking images - only real art and lessons created from real art can produce real artists!

Mark your calendars! 🎨 Our new term is locked in, running right through to a very special way to finish — an End of Term Exhibition on Friday 22nd January, 6–7pm, where we'll celebrate everyone's work from the whole term.

Really sad to hear about the sudden passing of Nigel Bickle, Hastings District Council's CE. I met him once when I was standing for local elections, and he was every bit as genuine and warm as everyone's saying today.

Thinking of his family and everyone at council who knew him well. Rest easy, Nigel - heaven has another angel. 🕊️

What a lovely session this week! Watercolour was the medium on the table, and the range of work happening in that room was brilliant to see.

We spent time exploring tone, building a mountain and water landscape using paynes grey through to turquoise and Prussian blue, watching how those tones shift and layer to create real depth in a scene. It's such a good exercise for training the eye to see beyond "just blue" or "just grey."

Meanwhile some of our returning students pushed things further, working with gouache to bring real weight and structure to their mountains — that lovely opaque quality gives such a different result to a traditional wash, and it was great to see them experimenting with it.

That's what I love about our classes, beginners and returners working side by side, same subject, completely different journeys. Everyone leaves with something to be proud of!
