Hamilton Civic Choir

Hamilton Civic Choir We strive to bring musical joy to both performers and listeners in the Waikato and beyond 😄🎵

In addition to the large choral works of the great composers, often performed with piano, organ, or orchestral accompaniment and fabulous soloists, our repertoire includes everything from chamber music to more modern pieces. Currently we comprise about 50 singers, some of whom travel from other Waikato towns to sing with us, and are always looking to audition more choristers. We have a wide and va

ried repertoire and present works from various cultures around the world, including music from our own Aotearoa New Zealand. Along with our musical director Elise Bradley, MNZM, we look forward to bringing musical joy to the Waikato and beyond!

Huge CONGRATULATIONS to Dr Rachael Griffiths-Hughes who was named an MNZM today for her services to music. We couldn't be prouder.

We're thrilled to see three outstanding choral leaders recognised with an MNZM in the 2026 King's Birthday honours: Rachael Griffiths-Hughes (Director of Music at St Peter's Cathedral in Hamilton and former director of Hamilton Civic Choir), Alison Talmage (leader of the CeleBRation Choir), and Peter Adams (former Music Director of Dunedin City Choir). We're equally delighted to see Miriam Spragg (administrator of Christchurch City Chorus) awarded a KSM, alongside two others in the wider music community: Mary Gow and Alison Price. A special nod, also, to Adrienne Jansen (sister-in-law of the late Guy Jansen, and editor of his book "Sing New Zealand") who has been awarded an ONZM for her services to writing and publishing. Hearty congratulations to them all!
