I'm honestly a bit frustrated at the moment seeing authors who use AI in their illustrations (and probably in their text as well), getting praise and publicity for their books.
It's not jealousy, I love to see creative people do well and get their praise. It's frustration.
I have worked so hard to build the skills it took to create this book (yes, I wrote the text and did every dot of illustration myself!), and to bring it to life. I only have 12 followers on this page, and less than 500 on IG, and it's not that I don't promote myself either, but I'm finding it so hard to gain traction.
Seeing regional newspapers promoting books with obvious AI use is so disappointing. Hearing AI authors say they sold ### copies, or stocked in X place, ugh, I am just so over it.
Shoutout to the wonderful authors and illustrators doing the hard yards, the real deal. Our work may be far from perfect, and may not get the attention it deserves, but we can sleep well at night knowing we aren't claiming we created something we didn't. (I actually don't really have an issue with authors/illustrators who are honest about their AI use).
