Kids can also see some original art from my new picture book, and learn how I illustrated a whole book with paper scraps.

I have a piece in this beautiful show at Inverlochy Art School, in Wellington, this week.

13 artists have created pieces inspired by a collection of stories by Michaelanne Foster.

All are welcome to join us on this beautiful day for a drink, the opportunity to enjoy performative readings of the stories and poems by Michelanne Forster that the show is built around and hear from the artists.

So excited for this next week!
Life in Vacant Spaces have been so wonderfully supportive, this is a great opportunity for creatives and I am so proud to be part of this.

Sticky Dog! is on it's way from the Wellington-based printer right now, and should be here tomorrow/Friday. Woo HOO!!!

I will be keeping the pre-order price going til the end of Sunday 6th Sept (Father's Day), and my giveaway is still going (see last post).
Then it will go up to $20 as an intro price til the end of the month, and will be $24 full retail price after October.

The first Childrens Book Week is here!
Unfortunately, Sticky Dog won't be back from the printer yet, but I am running a giveaway this week, and your prize will arrive ASAP when it is printed.

One winner will be picked to receive a free copy of the Sticky Dog book, along with a signed, original collaged Sticky Dog that was used in the making of the book, and an Artemis Jones washi tape.

I'm honestly a bit frustrated at the moment seeing authors who use AI in their illustrations (and probably in their text as well), getting praise and publicity for their books.
It's not jealousy, I love to see creative people do well and get their praise. It's frustration.

I have worked so hard to build the skills it took to create this book (yes, I wrote the text and did every dot of illustration myself!), and to bring it to life. I only have 12 followers on this page, and less than 500 on IG, and it's not that I don't promote myself either, but I'm finding it so hard to gain traction.

Seeing regional newspapers promoting books with obvious AI use is so disappointing. Hearing AI authors say they sold ### copies, or stocked in X place, ugh, I am just so over it.

Shoutout to the wonderful authors and illustrators doing the hard yards, the real deal. Our work may be far from perfect, and may not get the attention it deserves, but we can sleep well at night knowing we aren't claiming we created something we didn't. (I actually don't really have an issue with authors/illustrators who are honest about their AI use).

Decided to take a few extra days to make a change which greatly improved it's quality, so I'm pleased I made that change.

Here is a peek at a double page spread (no text so no spoilers ;)) from Sticky Dog!, my upcoming picture book.

Ziggy, the 'sticky dog' loves his family so much, but he can often get in the way and be a bit annoying. But like my own dog, he is a special part of his family too.
