Gemma approached me asking if she could use the magpie I had recently painted for her to put on the cover of a beautiful book she was writing in memory of Austin, her son, I was deeply moved and honoured to have been asked.

Austin was nicknamed 'magpie' because of his love of collecting all things shiny. As a welder by trade, Austin handmade and surprised his Mum with the metal rose that the magpie is holding in his beak, it was most definately a one of a kind Mother's Day gift.

A memorial painting I have just completed for the Mum of a very special young man who passed to soon, he was a welder by trade and because of his love of all things shiny his nickname was ‘magpie’ and with great love he had meticulously made and gifted a beautiful metal rose to his Mum for Mothers Day, it was such an honour and a very emotional piece to create.
