This little one is the reason my weaving began, I wove my first contemporary kākahu for him, each fibre filled with the strength and courage he needed to walk the hard path he was about to face.

Diagnosed with a rare genetic condition at 6 months old meant he was also diagnosed with takiwātanga and more. Some days aren't easy. Some days, I can't find the quality time to weave, or Im not in the right headspace. Days like today, son wants to have a kōrero about his favourite people The Wiggles . He wants to sing all the songs and kanikani to 🥰,
so I put down the tools and give him the time and space he needs. SAHM life 🤷🏽‍♀️🤭

Round and round we go, weaving muka 🥰. I've said it before, and I shall say it again, muka is my favourite natural fibre to work with.

These hands are forever guided by my tūpuna, I've never attended wananga, nor has anyone taught me in person or any online courses. Just me, my instincts, and Tūpuna are bringing these fibres new life, new purpose, and creating beautiful taonga.

And for that, I am blessed with skills that help my culture live on.

OMG I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHAT I WAS WATCHING 😮. I did not see this coming, and it was so heartwarming to witness. A raw, unscripted, honest reaction to unboxing my mahi 🥰. I've been meaning to share this for a wee while. This is a video of a lady in Australia who won a prize in a raffle I hosted.

This lovely wahine is Mereana, we connected through an awesome Māori community on social media. She creates her own products, making polymer clay jewellery. Mereana has endured a huge amount of loss in her lifetime, so she shares her story with those online to help spread awareness, positivity, motivation, and good mental health.

Ever since we connected online, she has shown my mahi and journey a ton of support, which I have also done in return. But not just me whanau, she helps everyone she can because she likes to spread the aroha and tautoko. These are the kind of people that I love to support, kind honest humans that only ever want peace and happiness. So that's why I chose to add a sneaky gift into the parcel 🤭, it's important we give back and especially to those who appreciate and deserve it.

Ballerina is the first thought that comes to mind when I look at this piece. There was no storytelling involved before or while I was weaving muka around this hue, I wanted to just choose the materials and let my hands work. But I see now how pretty this piece has become. She reminds me of a ballerina wearing a flower headpiece and tutu around her waist.

What do you see or feel when you look at this mahi???

I would like to make a few more to go with this one as a small collection. Using different shape and sized hue, but still keep the same vibe and colourway. We shall see what I come up with.

Framed poi piu perfect for a little girl, would look lovely hanging on the wall in her bedroom. It's kinda pink, its kinda pretty 💖💕 but it's definitely not me 😅. But, thats how this colour turned out. It does look more pinkish in person, which will show up more in some still images, I will share some with ya'll in the next day or so.
