Getting ready…getting ready!
So much to do but doing it will be a huge achievement so I’m going to keep on.
Three years ago I was bedridden with a chronic illness, on my own and feeling well, honestly, quite scared.
Today I am still on the mend but getting better every day and would love to share my wax art with you at The Tauranga Art Show
As you can imagine this is a big deal to me after going through that experience but the biggest deal will be to share my work with people again 😃

Would love to see you there ❤️

You know that feeling…
When you’ve had a busy day but you know you still have things to do!
There are ways of looking at things and in this instance, I knew that ‘night time was the right time’ to work on this piece for the upcoming art show. Because I get to see it in a whole different light, so to speak 😄
Not only that, it will be very much worth it to speak to people interested in this unique form of painting that is encaustic wax!
Looking forward…

As I get ready to move from Mount Maunganui — not too far, but far enough to know this view won’t be part of my everyday — I felt the need to paint this iconic landmark.
I always said if I ever painted it, it would be in wax but never felt the calling, until now ✨

The ocean, the changing light, and the quiet presence of the mountain watching over it all have been part of the rhythm of life here.

This painting feels like a moment of gratitude…
a way of honouring this place before the next chapter begins.

Some places shape us in ways we only understand when it’s time to say goodbye.

If you’ve ever lived in Mount Maunganui, you’ll know that feeling.
There’s something about this place that stays with you 🤍

Perception shifts with the light we see things in.

Light reveals what texture is holding.

This close-up of my silver encaustic artwork shows how wax and metallic pigment interact with light and reflection.
The surface shifts throughout the day depending on where the light lands.

It reminds me how much perception changes with the light we see things in — in art and in life.

From my studio in New Zealand, I’m constantly fascinated by how one surface can reveal something new with every shift of light.

Do you prefer artwork in soft light or when the light is strong and revealing the texture?

Our hearts are still mourning:
Our beautiful Mauao,
The families who have been affected,
The devastation,
The place that drew people.

But now, our beautiful mountain is drawing people for a different reason;
to stand together,
to breathe together,
to feel together,
to hope together.

It is quiet here now, but we are feeling the world’s hearts too.
We know things change, our place has changed and the world is changing.
But humanity is changing too.

For the longest time I have known that it is through these tragedies that we will learn what is important, what is true, what living in this world really means.
This week, I am seeing it in my backyard and that is something that can only give hope, positivity and a reminder that goodness exists, it really does ❤️

Just in case you wonder where I draw my wax painting inspiration from… no, you already know!
2026, what is it…?
Another moment. Let’s be in it wholeheartedly, finding feel-good moments wherever we can and watch nature as it teaches us how to ebb and flow ✨

Wax painting today✨
Encaustic means to burn in 🔥
Each layer is fused with heat, creating depth that cannot be replicated or undone.

Encaustic wax painting dates back to Egyptian times - an ancient practice.
A slow build.
A work made to endure.
And my passion ✨
