Happy Spring! 🌸

It was 5 years ago today that I launched Dewdrops as a small handmade jewellery business. Making and teaching art has always been my biggest passion and Im so proud to have continued it for this long, especially after some rather difficult health challenges.

I’ve put a lot more focus over the past year and a half on my wellbeing and physical health and am so blessed to be starting a new journey into motherhood with a little bubba on the way later this month 👶🏻

In saying that, I’ll be taking some time off from Dewdrops while I settle in as a new mumma. Clay earring workshops will return at some stage in the future and I’m sure I’ll be eager to get back into the studio for some ‘me time’. The Dewdrops website is currently still open for earring orders, although stock is super limited. I’ll still be reading emails and messages so feel free to get in touch anytime 🩷

Coming up next Saturday✨

I am going to miss teaching workshops 🥲 but am also super excited to be starting a new chapter and welcoming my first baby in September 👶🏻. I don't know exactly when I'll be back teaching workshops again but I'll definitely keep you all updated. If you're interested in joining a clay jewellery class, now is the time to book. It’s been so much fun teaching school holiday workshops! I used to teach kids art classes before starting Dewdrops and I’m so happy that I get to continue educating and sharing my craft with young creatives through clay jewellery.

Join us for a delightful and leisurely afternoon filled with creativity! Only a few spots left for this Saturday 28th June in Birkenhead.

Included in the workshop:

✨ A fun and relaxing 3.5 hour hands-on experience with all materials provided.

✨ 3 - 6 pairs of earrings or brooches to take home (more jewellery pieces can be made if you have time).

✨ Learn all the basic techniques from conditioning clay, colour mixing, slab making, screen printing and finishing techniques.

Join us for a fun and creative session with all materials provided. Jewellery Maker Vanessa from Dewdrops will guide you through all the steps to create your own collection of clay jewellery. We also bake the clay for you to harden and teach you how to finish your pieces off so they're ready to wear and accessorise. Check out our website for more info:

My design process for creating clay earrings 👩🏻‍🎨

Each pair of earrings is individually created as a miniature work of art starting from a sketch and then a prototype is created to test the colours and the composition of the design. I then create a template for the bird’s body that is cut out from a thinly rolled out piece of clay.

The most time goes into the illustration part next where hundreds of tiny pieces of clay are rolled and come together. The process is very similar to creating a painting but made entirely in clay.

A wonderful workshop yesterday at the Franklin Arts Centre 🥰 It always amazes me how well everyone picks up the making process, especially beginner students!
