🚨 Student Sponsor Compliance: A New Era Begins
As of 1 June 2026, the UK student sponsor compliance landscape has undergone a significant transformation.
The UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) has officially introduced the new RAG (Red, Amber, Green) rating system, bringing stricter compliance requirements and greater accountability for student sponsors.
Key changes now in effect:
🔴 Visa Refusal Rate – Must remain below 5%
🟡 Enrolment Rate – Must be 95% or higher
🟢 Course Completion Rate – Minimum 85% (increasing to 90% from June 2027)
⚠️ One important takeaway: A single red metric results in an overall Red rating. There is no averaging across performance indicators and no room for complacency.
These changes place a stronger emphasis on student recruitment quality, genuine applicant assessment, enrolment management, and student success outcomes. Institutions and recruitment partners will need to work more closely than ever to ensure compliance and maintain high standards.
The message from UKVI is clear: quality, accountability, and student outcomes matter more than ever.
How do you think these changes will impact universities, colleges, and international student recruitment strategies going forward?
