In Tibetan Buddhism, Vajrasattva is the embodiment of purification. Practitioners turn to him to cleanse negative karma, broken vows, and obscurations of the mind.
At the heart of this practice is the Hundred Syllable Mantra, recited to purify past wrongdoing and restore the mindโs natural clarity.
Vajrasattva is shown in white, radiant and still, holding a vajra in his right hand and a bell in his left, symbols of skillful means and wisdom united.
This practice is one of the foundational preliminaries (ngondro) in Vajrayana Buddhism, used before advancing to higher ta***ic paths.
This thangka depicts Vajrasattva as a doorway to purification, a reminder that the mind can always be cleared and renewed.
