Crorepati vaine vayo aba 😅

The government has introduced a new customs regulation increasing rewards for informers who help authorities catch smuggling and illegal import export activities. Under the revised Customs Regulation 2083, people providing reliable information about smuggling operations can now receive up to 15 percent of the value recovered from seized or auctioned goods, while those directly helping capture goods and suspects can receive rewards of up to 30 percent.

Officials say the new system aims to make anti-smuggling operations more effective by encouraging faster information sharing and stronger public cooperation. The regulation also allows authorities to immediately provide up to Rs 10,000 as informer expenses during urgent operations, with payments sent directly to bank accounts. The government says identities of informers will remain fully confidential except in cases requested by courts or investigation agencies.

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case at the Special Court against several officials linked to the Surkhet Valley Town Development Committee in Birendranagar. The officials are accused of embezzling more than Rs 2 crore 94 lakh collected from shop stall and land rental revenues over multiple fiscal years from 2076/77 to 2080/81.

According to the CIAA, the accused allegedly worked together to collect over Rs 4 crore 18 lakh in revenue but deposited only around Rs 1 crore 23 lakh into the bank account. Investigators say fake income and expenditure reports were created to make it appear that all money had been properly deposited and approved by committee meetings. The corruption case has been filed against former member secretaries, finance officials and sub-accountants under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Residents of border villages in Mechinagar, Jhapa, have been living in fear after large herds of wild elephants began entering Nepal from India at night. Local authorities say around 100 elephants believed to have arrived from India’s Assam region are staying near border forests during the day, while smaller groups of 30 to 40 elephants cross into Nepali settlements at night, destroying maize fields, areca nut plantations, and other crops.

Officials have mobilized security personnel, forest guards, and rapid response teams to control the situation. Authorities are also repairing an 18 kilometer solar-powered electric fence along the border and coordinating with Indian forest officials to reduce elephant movement into Nepal. Local residents say the elephants have already injured three people, damaged 15 houses, and caused heavy agricultural losses in recent months, increasing fear among villagers during the harvest season.
