The Air Has a Story. Will You Tell It?
Visual Storytelling Workshop
Impact447 is recruiting 40 young citizen journalists in Kathmandu and Bhairawa for a one-day immersive training workshop on visual storytelling for air quality issues.
About the workshop
Air pollution is Nepal’s number one environmental health risk, causing 26,000 premature deaths annually, reducing life expectancy by 3.4 years, and costing nearly 6% of GDP. Yet its impacts often remain invisible in public storytelling.
Impact447 is launching “SafaHawa”, a clean-air awareness campaign and online platform (safahawa.com) designed to help communities across Nepal notice, document, and share what the air around them really looks like. The Safa Hawa campaign encourages people to populate content and conversations on clean air in the future.
Through two one-day workshops (one in Kathmandu, one in Bhairawa), participants will gain practical skills to understand, interpret, and communicate air quality issues through compelling visuals and storytelling. This is a hands-on training with field simulations, so you will leave with direct experience, not just theory and the confidence to produce content that matters.
What we are looking for
We want to make the ordinary visible: haze during rush hour, smoke from cooking fires, traffic and waste burning, dusty roads, construction sites, commuters, vendors, children in masks, and everyday experiences of polluted air.
We also welcome stories of resilience and solutions: community action, safer transport, green spaces, and practices that reduce pollution or exposure.
All content must be captured in public spaces. Participants will receive content guidelines before the workshop.

What we ask in return
After the workshop, each participant must submit a minimum of 20 captioned photos and/or short videos to the Safahawa.com platform before public launch.
Who should apply
No prior photography or journalism experience required. We are looking for curious young people with strong local knowledge, access to a smartphone, and the ability to take, edit, caption, and upload photos/videos.
