🎬 SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW OPEN! 🎬

Stavanger Indie International Film Festival is officially returning in 2027! 🥳

After an incredible festival in 2026, we're thrilled to announce that we are once again opening our doors to filmmakers from Stavanger, Norway, and around the world.

We're looking for bold, creative, strange, beautiful, hilarious, disturbing, experimental and unforgettable films. Whether you made your film with a huge crew, a tiny team, a professional budget, or sheer determination and questionable amounts of caffeine—we want to see it. ❤️

🎥 Stavanger Indie International Film Festival 2027

📅 Festival dates (provisional): 15–16 October 2027
📍 Stavanger, Norway

Submissions are now open, with multiple deadlines throughout the year. So whether you're ready to submit today or are still putting the finishing touches on your masterpiece, there's plenty of time to join us.

At Stavanger Indie, we believe great filmmaking can come from anywhere. We're particularly excited to discover new filmmakers and give ambitious independent work the opportunity to find an audience.

🏆 **AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARD WINNER!** 🏆

We are thrilled to announce that the **Audience Choice Award at Stavanger Indie International Film Festival 2026** goes to...

✨ **DREAMALISM** ✨

*Dreamalism* follows a young girl who is bullied at school by Marlene and her gang. When her attempts to seek help are met with indifference, her frustration and anger begin to manifest in dreams of revenge—dreams that perhaps should never come true...

A surreal drama with a primarily young cast, *Dreamalism* is a powerful example of what independent filmmaking can achieve. Made on a low budget but filled with creativity, imagination and an important message, it is exactly the kind of film we love to celebrate at Stavanger Indie. ❤️🎬

And, of course, this award belongs to the audience! The Audience Choice Award was decided by the people who joined us at the festival and voted for the films that stayed with them.

Congratulations to everyone involved in **DREAMALISM**! 🏆

Thank you for sharing your work with us—and thank you to our wonderful audience for making your voices heard.

🎬✨ **STAVANGER INDIE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2026**
Celebrating filmmaking from everywhere, at every level, and reminding us that great stories can come from anywhere.

Espen Aukan — screenwriter of Troll, Troll 2, and Viking Wolf (all Netflix) — sits down with us ahead of his appearance at Stavanger Indie International Film Festival.

We talk about writing blockbuster horror on a Norwegian budget, working closely with director Roar Uthaug across two Troll films, staying grounded after international success, table reads (and how terrifying they are), and why he makes time to support young filmmakers coming up in the industry.

Stavanger Indie Film Festival 2026 is over! ❤️🎬

What a weekend.

A huge thank you to all of the filmmakers, guests, volunteers, audiences and friends who came along and made this year's festival happen. We had films and filmmakers from Stavanger and around the world, some fantastic conversations, some very memorable Q&As, a lot of awards, and a lot of lovely people coming together to celebrate independent filmmaking.

We're still recovering — and probably will be for a little while 😂 — but we're already thinking about what we can do next time.

If you attended the festival or had a film selected, we'd love to hear from you. Tell us what you enjoyed, what you'd like to see more of, and what we could improve for the next edition.

Filmmakers: we'd also love to see your photos from the festival! Send them our way and we'll happily share them (with credit).

And if you haven't voted for the Audience Choice Award yet, this is your chance! 🎥 Link in comments :)

Thank you again to everyone who came, screened, talked, laughed, travelled, helped, watched, listened and celebrated with us.

See you next year. ❤️

Alex Watson's directing rule for actors: first take, stick to the script. Second take, try something. Third take — throw the script out entirely. 👀
Some of the film's best lines came out of take three. 🎬
