Last week was our first week of teaching at Majorstuen skole in Oslo. We’d like to share a little about are inaugural week and as well as introduce this new blog, which will be all about the school and give insights into learning and practicing Irish trad music.

Gruppeundervisning i bodhrán høsten 2026!

Brendan Monaghan underviser grupper i bodhrán denne høsten. Fra helt nybegynner til litt øvet, på Majorstua skole, torsdager fra kl 20-21. Kanskje noen vil børste støvet av tromma, eller kjenner noen som har lyst til å begynne å spille? We offer group classes in tin whistle, bodhrán, and guitar, and band classes for all instruments.

Congratulations to Anne Likuski on passing Grade 6 of the SCT Performance exams! ☘️🎶
She is the first student from Comhaltas Oslo to take an SCT exam, making this a real milestone for our branch👏

Congratulations to Micheal Broderick for amazing results at the Belfast Fleadh! 👏🏆
This weekend he’ll be teaching a mandolin and banjo workshop at Féile Oslo-be sure to sign up!! 🎶☘️

A big well done to all of our students who competed and performed at Fleadh Cheoil Belfast 2026. A special word of congratulations to MA student Micheal Broderick who won the senior mandolin competition and was placed in the banjo. MA graduate Danny Burke also placed in the senior piano accordion while BAIM graduand Annalise Whyte was also a star across the many stages in the city.

Grateful to be part of Comhaltas - the largest group involved in the preservation and promotion of Irish traditional music🎶🎻☘️

A wonderful evening at the official launch party of the Comhaltas Oslo branch in Norway.

We wish the Oslo branch every success as they begin their Comhaltas journey and look forward to seeing the branch flourish in years ahead.

One of the highlights of last week’s opening party was receiving this beautiful handcrafted bodhrán from Bjarne Stensrud. ☘️🥁Here’s Brendan Monaghan giving us a glimpse of the rich tones of this wonderful instrument.
We're incredibly grateful for this generous gift to the school. Not only are we fortunate to have a thriving Irish music community here in Oslo, but also talented craftspeople who help keep traditional music alive through their skill and dedication🇳🇴🇮🇪
