QSPA Collaborations

At the core of these collaborations is HM Queen Sonja’s own artistic practice. Working closely with each invited artist, she engages in a shared process where ideas, techniques, and visual languages are exchanged and developed over time. Her sustained commitment to printmaking forms a continuous thread throughout the projects, connecting them across years and contexts.

QSPA Collaborations

Marking fifteen years since its founding in 2011, Queen Sonja Print Award presents a summer exhibition dedicated to the collaborative projects that have shaped its development. Bringing together works created in close dialogue with invited artists, the exhibition highlights collaboration as both a working method and a central value within the award.

This year also marks five years since the gallery opened its doors in Bispevika, a space for encountering these collaborations, and printmaking more broadly, with the public.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of David Hockney, one of the most influential artists of our time.

In 2018, Queen Sonja Print Award was honored to present Hockney with our Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his extraordinary contribution to printmaking and his fearless, joyful exploration of light, colour and technology across decades.

His vision changed how generations of artists, and audiences, see the world. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones at this time.

We are proud to see this year’s Queen Sonja Print Award winner, Tacita Dean, featured in the collateral event Still Joy at the 2026 Venice Biennale.

Her 16mm film “If I Were in the Adlon” portrays Ukrainian artist Borys Mykhaikov and his wife in a moving reflection on art, life, and love.

For those in Venice this year, we highly recommend taking the time to see this extraordinary work.

The Board of the Queen Sonja Print Award Foundation (QSPA) has appointed former Director of the Munch Museum, Stein Olav Henrichsen, as Director and Chief Executive Officer.

He has been appointed to a fixed-term position and will, together with the Foundation’s Board, lead the important work of further developing the organization during an exciting period, in line with the Foundation’s purpose: to promote printmaking, generate interest, and stimulate the development of contemporary graphic art.

“We are very pleased to welcome Stein Olav Henrichsen as the Foundation’s new Director. His broad background, expertise, and extensive network will be a valuable asset to QSPA and to our efforts to develop and inspire printmaking as an artistic form, at a particularly exciting time,” says Chair of the Board Gry Mølleskog.

“I look forward to contributing to the further development of such a well-established art initiative as QSPA, in collaboration with a highly competent Board and the Foundation’s skilled staff. Printmaking is an important and accessible form of expression, and therefore a strong gateway to artistic interest and creativity. Contributing to the promotion of art and artists has always been a central part of my motivation. Art enriches both society and the individual,” says Stein Olav Henrichsen.
