Aug 1st is the next cross-quarter on the festival wheel. The pagan celtic name for it up here in the north is Lughnasadh (loo-na-sa) 🌾 & celebrates the first harvest, reaping what's been sown since February and seeing the bright summer light start to shift. Down south you're starting to sow the seeds for Imbolc 🌱 but BOTH are fire festivals!

This post is specific to the harvest side of things and the tradition of making 'corn dollies'! There are a few ways of making these, which include using corn husks, but quite often they're made by weaving wheat shafts as a means to protect the spirit of the grain -- celebrating the abundance for the current harvest and holding that energy for the sowing of the seeds in February ☺️ I made two this year for the first time just from Reed Grass in the forest as I wasn't near a wheat field. One's inside and one's on my front door ☺️ and I wove them under my porch on a rainy afternoon. Magicks. A blissful and abundant Lughnasadh to you all and a magickal Imbolc to those down south 🌾🌱

Such a beautiful tiny leaf. Do you have those moments where you're walking along, peripherally notice something without stopping, but then your gut tells you to pause and go back. Tis just what happened with this tiny dried leaf. Just 2x3cm with these 5 little holes.
I spy with my little eye = I spore with my little awe. Keep noticing things and listening to your soul 💫🤗

Caught this moment with my friend the moon late Saturday night. With the new moon in Cancer tomorrow (Tuesday 14th) we're now firmly in the dark moon phase x Living so far north and with days of longer light, I don't see her as often over the summer, so I always feel a moment of calm and safety when she appears. Having said that, the new moon phase has always been my favourite precisely because she's the one we don’t see. She dons her invisible cloak and reminds us that it’s ok to take a moment to go into the darkness, recharge, and rebirth for another cycle.
