SO- CALLED CHAIRMAN BUGA’S REVISIONIST HISTORY WILL NOT RESCUE HIS SINKING CAMPAIGN.
My attention has been drawn to a viral video currently circulating on social media involving one of the National Vice Chairmen of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Osman Masawudu, popularly known as Chairman Buga, who is seeking re-election. In the said video, Chairman Buga makes the rather absurd claim that, during the 2024 general election campaign, it took his single-handed intervention to stop me from tagging their politically bankrupt, discredited, uninspiring and increasingly irrelevant flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whose political currency has depreciated so badly that even his own party is struggling to sell him to Ghanaians, as an anti-Muslim who eats pork, drinks local alcohol (apio), and engages in acts entirely contrary to Islamic tenets.
Although I initially decided not to pay attention to the so-called Chairman Buga, whose re-election campaign appears to be sinking to the deepest depths of the political sea, I believe it is necessary to set the record straight and remind him that he possesses neither the moral authority nor the political power to police my voice, regulate my commentary, or act as a censor over my political statements.
For the avoidance of doubt, Chairman Buga did not stop me from anything during the 2024 campaign or at any other time. I did not seek his permission to campaign, I did not encounter any imaginary roadblock erected by him, and I certainly did not require his authorisation to expose the political contradictions surrounding his flagbearer. His attempt to portray himself as some heroic gatekeeper who single-handedly restrained me is nothing more than a ludicrous revisionist narrative designed to manufacture cheap relevance for a campaign that is desperately gasping for political oxygen.
As Chairman of the NDC Zongo Caucus, my contribution to the 2024 election campaign speaks for itself. I fearlessly traversed the length and breadth of Ghana, visiting Zongo constituencies, communities and settlements, meeting community elders, engaging the youth, mobilising the grassroots and campaigning vigorously for President John Dramani Mahama and NDC parliamentary candidates.
I did not conduct that arduous work from the comfort of an air-conditioned studio, nor did I rely on manufactured social media narratives. I was on the ground, engaging the people and delivering a campaign that contributed to the NDC’s success across the Zongo communities. It is therefore the height of political delusion for Chairman Buga to suddenly emerge and present himself as the man who held some imaginary veto over my 2024 national campaign activities.
If Chairman Buga believes he can rehabilitate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s battered political image by inventing fictional battles and rewriting history, he is sorely mistaken. Dr. Bawumia’s political currency has depreciated beyond redemption. His record, economic stewardship, broken promises, the concerns surrounding Hajj fares, and his broader political posture speak for themselves. He has become a political liability whose currency has lost considerable value, and no amount of revisionist storytelling by Chairman Buga can restore it.
Indeed, if Chairman Buga wants to rehabilitate a candidate whose political credibility has been severely damaged in the eyes of many Ghanaians, he should do so without dragging my name into his desperate rescue mission. You do not need to “tag” a politician whose own record and political conduct have already made him one of the most difficult political products for his own party to sell.
I therefore advise Chairman Buga to stop using my name as a lifebuoy for his drowning re-election campaign and instead concentrate on explaining his record to the NPP delegates who will ultimately decide his political fate.
Politics is not a funeral. If Chairman Buga cannot withstand the heat, he should get out of the kitchen. But if he dares to continue dragging my name into his political calculations, I will respond with facts, history and the full force of my voice. And when the dust settles, even the political shadows he is desperately trying to hide behind may no longer be willing to stand with him.
