Fleur van den Berg is a visual artist working from her atelier in Leiden. Making sculptures is her way of processing the world around her. Her works find their origin in ‘la condition humaine’, her own questioning of society and its current challenges, while keeping an outsider’s perspective without losing sight of the awareness of her privileges and responsibilities. These initial thoughts and fe

elings inform the material choice of the sculpture. She works with a wide variety of materials in alienating and unexpected qualities but has a preference for glass, ceramics and textiles.
“You’ll find recognizable elements of humans, animals, and everyday objects in my work, often in a surreal and distorted way. I want my sculptures to seduce you to look at them, entice you to want to touch them, perhaps laugh about them, be touched by them. When you just think you understand it, you are surprised by the discovery of a new interpretation of it. I want to show that there are many perspectives, many shades of grey, and many truths.’’

Tonight my big sculpture will part of ‘Troostrijk’, a theatre show in Leiden about how art and other things can give comfort. I like to share with you, some photo’s of the creation of the work. The sculpture symbolizes autonomy over your own body and mind, for breaking free of old systems.

Te Obvolvo: A Sculpture of Love and Connection

“Introducing Te obvolvo, my newest sculpture, now on display at the Grunerie in Bilthoven. Te obvolvo means ‘to cover all over, to envelop, to wrap around.’ Sometimes, I long to be wrapped, to melt into my spouse, or to envelop my children when they’re having a tough time, wishing to take away their pain. This piece speaks to the universal feeling of love, connectedness, and care—a reflection of my own experiences yet relatable to so many.

Join me on Sunday, October 27, at 2:30 PM, to see this piece in person, enjoy some sweets, and experience the exhibition. At 4:00 PM, treat yourself to a concert by singer Sophie Hoytema and pianist Ed Boekee (tickets: €20, reservations: [email protected]). After the concert, the exhibition will be open for free viewing, and you’re always welcome to visit by appointment.”

Leuk als je naar mijn beelden komt kijken die er staan in deze voormalige school van Kees Boeke. Nu woont Rita Hijmans er. Vanaf 16 uur is er een concert waarvoor je tickets kunt kopen. Na afloop is de Grunerie weer vrij toegankelijk en ben ik er ook. Fijn als je me laat weten als je wilt komen, maar spontaan mag natuurlijk ook :-)

Wil je iets bijzonders beleven op 5 mei, kom dan naar het Nationaal Bomenmuseum Gimborn. We hebben Man van Taal uitgenodigd een kunstwandeling te verzorgen bij de expositie Beelden & Bomen. Hij neemt je mee op een wandeling over de expositie en zal af en toe stilstaan bij een van de kunstwerken om deze ontmoeting tussen sculptuur en natuur nader te onderzoeken. Hoe ‘verstaan’ de beelden en de bomen elkaar?

Na afloop kun je op eigen gelegenheid op pad in het sprookjesachtige arboretum. De route langs alle beelden is 3,8 kilometer. De man van taal maakt een selectie. Ik zal er ook zijn. Er is wat te drinken zoets te koop bij de entree van het arboretum. Broodje kun je het beste zelf meenemen.
35 kunstenaars van de Nederlandse Kring van Beeldhouwers exposeren er een beeld. Een symbiose van kunst en natuur.
