"There is a fine line between being superstitious... And being paranoid" - Dr van Leeuwen

I'm suspecting you might've guessed it already: the new Angler is all about superstition! Pick it up at the Albion Halloween Lecture on the 30th of October (time 19:00, place Lipsius 005), where you will be able to hear more of Dr van Leeuwen as he speaks about "Gothic Cars", as well as PhD student Sandra Mills's lecture "On Death and Dolls" :)

Freelancers Wanted!

After having released a festive 2nd issue over the winter, the Angler team is already gearing up for issue number 3!
This time, it is all about LGBTQ+ and inclusion.
We invite you to write a short story of around a 1000 words and send it to us, so that we can publish our favourite story in the upcoming issue! It would be nice if our theme is incorporated in some way, but we do accept short stories that do not have elements of LGBTQ+ and/or inclusion in them.

Feeling inspired? Send your stories to [email protected] , and you might see yours in print!

The Angler

Today's the final day before the deadline! Don't forget to submit your piece!

Whilst we're finalizing the details on promoting our first edition, the groundwork for edition two is being laid as we speak!

Here's where it gets interesting: YOU have a chance to write a piece for our second issue.

If you can come up with your own fake holiday and send us the name, traditions and customs of this holiday (how is it celebrated? will there be cake? who's invited? seriously, will there be cake?) in a private message via facebook or in a quick email to anglers[email protected], it might be printed in the next issue, and there might even be a prize
involved!

You have until the fifth of November to wow us!

Good luck!

So.

What. The. Heck. Happened. Since Birgitte's graduation ceremony, we seemed to have fallen off of the face of the planet. Vikings Historical Accuracy and Season 4 Predictions

Chill is in the air, and this Youtube video assesses the historical accuracies of Vikings. Since the fourth season has already aired there are no spoilers to be found. Apart from being a hint with regard to the first issue's theme, the video also serves as an appetiser for the fifth season, which is set to premier on November 29th. If you're not familiar with this great show, here's your chance to check it out! 😉

What better way to kick off 2016 than with a video on Vikings! And whilst this show may not be the most accurate, it is definitely my favorite. Over the cour...

Summer is coming to an end....and the Angler is back in business, which includes hiring a new secretary :) It doesn't take a lot of your time, and you'd have a blast contradicting.....ehm, adding new ideas to those of the rest of the board. Drop us a messsage if you feel up for the job.

In addition to that, guest writers are more than welcome to contribute to the Angler. Should you feel daunted, no worries: we can help you by providing editing and feedback as well as the topic itself. This includes people who draw comics or who simply wish to illustrate the articles.

While the summer has been somewhat fickle, the Angler has steadily been brainstorming and working out their ideas. We met with the new Albion Board past Thursday - thank you Suze and Wierik - and next, we'll be setting our course for next year.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Shots, Spirits, and Slurred Speech - The Angler

Read all about how alcohol affects your speech in this article from our latest issue, 'Inebriated Mayhem':

Story time: After a few shots of random bright coloured liquor, I once jokingly wanted to say the somewhat childish phrase “Stop, hou op, ik vind het niet leuk” to a good friend of mine. However, the words that left my mouth were “Stop, hou ik niet leuk... heh wacht. Wat?” Let us just say that the m...
