Another week of my Rhapsody in Indigo series. I'm always amazed to see how many variations on a theme you can make with such a simple idea.

Time for a new series, I'm calling it Rhapsody in Indigo with special thanks to Chigusa Kuraishi for the beautiful indigo dyed fabric she gave me when I visited her studio in September. You'll be seeing more of that fabric in the coming weeks.

The boats are back but they're getting smaller. I think we've seen the last of them for a while. Winter is coming, it's getting colder and wetter. Taking a boat in the winter takes courage and/or desperation. Remember that when you hear about people crossing the sea to reach a safe place for themselves and their children...
These pieces are all made with Cherrywood Hand-Dyed Fabric and stitched with Valdani Threads (8wt perlé). Beautiful colours that remind us we do not have to accept the ugly horror of hate and war.

It's easy to forget how much work goes into preparing for an exhibition. I was lucky enough to be (a very small) part of preparing for the exhibition 'Wie ben je? Van (zelf)portret tot selfie!' (Who are you? From (self)portrait to selfie!)
Last year I worked on the project 'Draad van Verbinding' (Thread of Connection) with people from Hattem, young and old, trying to answer the question 'what connects us' in small (10x10cm) artworks. The results can now be seen in this exhibition. I am so very proud of all the participants in this project. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️ The exhibition can be seen in Voerman Stadsmuseum Hattem till 14 February 2027. Don't miss it!

The wonderful project 'Draad van Verbinding' I made last year with so many people (young and old) from Hattem, is now part of this fantastic exhibition and can be seen in Voerman Stadsmuseum Hattem. The whole exhibition is absolutely worth a visit, you'll love it!
Het prachtige project 'Draad van Verbinding', dat ik vorig jaar samen met zoveel mensen (jong en oud) uit Hattem heb gemaakt, maakt nu deel uit van deze fantastische tentoonstelling en is te zien in het Voerman Stadsmuseum Hattem. De hele tentoonstelling is absoluut een bezoek waard; je wordt er blij van!

Vrijdag 9 oktober is de tentoonstelling ‘Wie ben je? Van (zelf)portret naar selfie’ in het Voerman Stadsmuseum Hattem geopend. The boats are back! When I look at them I think of holidays and summer fun...but that's not all boats are...for some (too many) people it's the way they try to escape from an impossible situation, risking their lives (and often their children) trying to find a safe place. What would you do if you had to make an impossible choice?

My work 'Messengers' (Messaggere in Italian) was made to remember Saint Frances of Assisi who died 800 years ago. Today is his day.
Across fifteen panels — moving from light through medium into dark — small hand-stitched doves carry their messages both ways: one flock travelling from light into shadow, the other from shadow toward light, crossing paths as they go.
These doves are messengers in the truest sense, echoing Francis of Assisi's own quiet insistence that peace is not given but carried, hand to hand, heart to heart, into every corner — light or dark — that needs it.
Each stitch remains an act of patience; each dove, a quiet invitation. Together, they ask us to do the same: to make a difference, however small, through acts of creativity and care.
