I think I have boats on my brain. I can't seem to stop making squares with what looks like sailboats...Now before you ask, I'm not a sailor, I get seasick very easily. Maybe it's because they look so peaceful, just floating around...what do you think? If only life could be like that for everyone...The reality is very different and I can't stop asking: when are we going to stop killing the children?
These pieces are all made with Cherrywood Hand-Dyed Fabric and stitched with Valdani Threads (8wt perlƩ). Beautiful colours that remind us we do not have to accept the ugly horror of hate and war.

Back home from The Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, UK. It was so lovely to be there, see beautiful work, talk to old friends and make new ones. Thank you to all the lovely students who came to my classes, you made wonderful work. So good to talk to so many people who like me wonder when we are going to stop the madness in the world. I am not alone, you are not alone! Never stop asking: when are we going to stop killing the children?

I am getting ready to go to The Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, UK. I'm looking forward to seeing lots of beautiful work, meeting lots of wonderful people, and of course sharing my love for working with fabric and thread through the workshops I'm teaching there. I wish we lived in a world where everyone is able to do the things they love. The reality is very different and I can't stop asking:
when are we going to stop killing the children?

There was a bit of a hiccup with the listing of my "Wonderful stitching with fabulous thread" workshop on the website of The Festival of Quilts but it's all sorted now and there's still time to book it. This is a second workshop that has been added due to popular demand. It is on Thursday 30th July from 5pm - 8pm.
As this is an academy workshop held outside the show floor you don’t need to purchase an entry ticket to attend
Box Office is here: https://thefestivalofquilts.seetickets.com/sessions/the-festival-of-quilts-quilt-academy-workshops?day=&type=general and search 420 to bring up the new workshop if you would like to book. I would love to see you there. We are going to have so much fun! šŸŖ”šŸ§µšŸ˜

More pieces inspired by the wonderful time I had in Peschici šŸ˜. A stark contrast to the images arriving continuously through our screens. Stop killing the children! Stop the killing!

Let me tell you about my wonderful trip to Italy. I was lucky enough to be invited to the Residence M3 in Peschici (Puglia, Italy) for an artist’s residence (https://www.residencem3.com/residenza-dartista?lang=en). An absolutely amazing opportunity to spend time with other artists in a beautiful place and make art while you’re there.
It was an interesting challenge. First of all I had to change the way I work to accommodate not having my sewing machine with me (see if you can spot the changes). It was also a challenge to manage to create a piece of art in the time available. You can be a really good stitcher but there’s a limit to how fast you can work. It was also interesting being the only textile artist at the retreat.
We all brought one finished artwork and then made another while we were there. All the artwork remains at Residence M3. If you visit you might find it in your apartment.
I had an amazing time. I learnt a lot about myself and what I can accomplish and enjoyed seeing what the other artists made. I have a head full of new ideas that I will hopefully get around to doing something with over the coming months.
The artwork I brought with me is 80x80 cm and called ā€˜Imagine…’ It is part of my ā€˜Stitching for Peace’ series. The one I made during the retreat is 70 x 70 cm and called ā€˜Su-mmm-er 2026’. The 3 m’s not a typo but a little pun on the name of the Residence.
Huge thanks to everyone who made this possible: KEKhuis voor kunst en cultuur, PippoCosenza, Residence M3 and all the wonderful artists who were part of the group (you can find their names in the last picture).
