🕯️𝗛𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽, 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗔 𝗟𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 🕯️

Throughout the three days, participants are invited to harvest the films, conversations, and encounters they move through: using paper, drawing, keywords, fragments of language, images, or whatever form feels right.

The harvest is conceived as a gift, a message carried from here to there, from those who listened to those who live it. It is also a memorial for ourselves: of what we learned, what moved us, and what we now carry.

The final day of 𝕌𝕟𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕄𝕒𝕡𝕤: Each Small Candle Lights a Corner of the Dark begins in 𝘒𝘩𝘶𝘻𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯 with Kamran Shirdel’s 𝘎𝘢𝘴, 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘦, 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘥 offering a historical context for the extraction zone and the intertwined histories of oil, development, and foreign interests.

From there, we move to the present through 𝘔𝘦𝘦𝘻𝘢𝘯 and 𝘚𝘪𝘦𝘨𝘦 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘉𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘦𝘨𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘔𝘢𝘥𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴, exploring the different realities of life at the margins of oil: labor, language, everyday life, and artistic expression in Ahwaz.

We close the gathering with 𝘈 𝘓𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘙𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘯, a collective harvest workshop where we assemble fragments from the films, conversations, and encounters into letters of solidarity that will travel back to the communities whose stories accompanied us throughout these four days.

𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘛𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘦 — 𝘋𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺
The third day of 𝕌𝕟𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕄𝕒𝕡𝕤: Each Small Candle Lights a Corner of the Dark begins in Artsakh with 𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘉𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘴𝘢𝘬𝘩, a journey through different layers of time, memory, and testimony. We continue with a collective reading on 𝘋𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺, reflecting on genocide, denial, and the futures they attempt to erase.
In the evening, we move to 𝘋𝘪𝘺𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘢𝘬ı𝘳 and 𝘙𝘰𝘫𝘢𝘷𝘢 through films that follow endangered landscapes, rivers and dam projects, and the stories of those who came together to defend Shengal.

🕯𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙊𝙣𝙚 — 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙃𝙚𝙧𝙚, 𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚🕯️

The second day of 𝕌𝕟𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕄𝕒𝕡𝕤 begins by reflecting on the different positions from which events are experienced, remembered, and narrated.

Through 𝘏𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 and 𝘚𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘜𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯 we explore questions of distance, belonging, and the shifting perspectives that emerge through movement between homeland and elsewhere.

🕯️𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙏𝙬𝙤 — 𝙂𝙚𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙥𝙝𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 🕯️

The day continues with Geographies of Resistance, a program tracing histories of occupation, settler colonialism, and resistance across Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria. Through archival and revolutionary cinema, the films revisit colonial archives, document life under occupation, bear witness to destruction and displacement, and reflect on the enduring relation between land, memory, and resistance.

We conclude the evening with 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘙𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 by Reem Shilleh, followed by a discussion with the filmmaker.

𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘡𝘦𝘳𝘰 – 𝘚𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘉𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴
We open with a day of collective reading, dialogue, performance, and film screenings.

We gather to listen across different histories, experiences, and proximities. Through a collective reading with 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝘼𝙢𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙙𝙖𝙢, the launch of 𝙎𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙝 𝘼𝙠𝙧𝙖𝙢’𝙨 𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙍𝙖𝙛𝙖𝙝 under genocide, a 𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙪𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 weaving together voices from Iran and the diaspora, and 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙢𝙨 𝙗𝙮 𝘿𝙞𝙣𝙖 𝙈𝙞𝙢𝙞 rooted in Palestine alongside a short film rooted in southern Iran, Chapter Zero opens up questions of how different positions shape what we can see, remember, carry forward, and imagine.

LAB111 (Amsterdam)

🗓️ Tuesday, 3 February
19:45 The Adventure of Denchu-Kozo
21:00 One Cut of the Dead

🔍Program
The Adventure of Denchu-Kozo
Shinya Tsukamoto
1987 | 47’ | Japan | Japanese w/ English subtitles
The Adventure of Denchu-Kozo is a frantic cyberpunk horror sci-fi epic that feels like a fever dream. Shot on 8mm, the story follows Hikari, a teenage boy with an electricity pole attached to his back who invents a time machine and travels to the future.

One Cut of the Dead
Shinichiro Ueda
2017 | 96’ | Japan | Japanese w/ English subtitles
One Cut of the Dead begins as what appears to be a one-take horror zombie movie but transforms into a heartfelt deconstruction of B-movie filmmaking. It exposes all the mess, improvisation, desperation, and creativity behind the scenes. The film blends gore, absurdity, and meta commentary and turns a zombie film (or rather the making of one) into a creative love letter to genre film.

✨ 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 — 𝘼 𝙮𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙚𝙙 𝙗𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 ✨

From the first Asian Movie Night of the year to the last, each edition in 2025 reminded us why we gather in dark rooms to watch light flicker on a screen. 📽️✨

A massive 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗞 𝗬𝗢𝗨 to everyone who joined us this year: the filmmakers who trusted us with their work, the partners and collaborators who helped make it happen, and the audiences who showed up with open hearts and curious minds. ❤️

Across every edition, we shared films that moved us, challenged us, and stayed with us long after the credits rolled.

We carry these stories with us into the next year. 🎬🌏
