The price of love
At first I thought about
A gold bracelet
Or a diamond ring
But realised in time
That you hated this kind of thing
Not the gold or the ring
But Valentine Day’s charade
Set in motion by the retail trade
Thus heart-shaped biscuits
Covered in pink marzipan
Would be no substitute
Making your teeth ache with sugar
And your stomach ready to puke
Scouring fancy shops
For something expensive and bijou
Would be a waste of time
With silk scarves or kid gloves
Failing to fire passion in you
So turn your back
On this sales game
Look deep into my heart
There you will find love
As it was meant to be
Without a price card
For Abi, love Mark
