Thank you for all your Birthday messages, really appreciated! Also thanks to all who came to Off The Grid at Mia Mao in Paris and Le Sucre in Lyon to celebrate, now I can change my old nick name of Dave Doubledecks to Dave Doublecake as there was a birthday cake at each event šŸ‘¹

This weekend I celebrate my Birthday during my Off The Grid residency at Mia Mao not just with a party with Candy Cox, David Shaw and The Beat, LFT and Louisahhh, which in normal circumstance would be incredible, but also with a Solo Exhibition at Jardin 21 next to the club. This Exhibition will be on from now for 10 days and is free to enter. It features some artists that have played at my night, alongside with the original shots used for the Off The Grid artwork DNA, and as I come from Brighton one moody shot of The Palace Pier. Last weekend I had the honour of doing three sets at The Golden Lion. One was a Saga Set (named after my Saga radio show) which featured punk/ alternative/ mutant disco etc. On Saturday was Techno and on Sunday I did a Disco set.

I haven't done a pure disco set for such a long time so I went to all my favourites of the period. I used to play all of the below tracklist in Brighton Clubs and parties at the time, some even at the Roller Disco where I had my first "residency" and a few at Weddings.

DJ'ing in the middle 80's was precarious and seen as a fickle career choice in small towns like Brighton, often you would hear from normal day to day people say "well when are you going to get a proper job?" . The nicer ones would call me Dave Doubledecks or Disco Dave etc, but most wondered when would I grow up. (makes me think of the words of Bob Monkhouse: "They all laughed when I said I wanted to be a comedian. Well, they're not laughing now" )

On Sunday once again I saw happy faces listen and dance to this beloved music, from Montana Sextet to Roy Ayers, and part of my DJ'ing musical journey over the years came back to the start for one night, it was such a great experience.

Itā€™s important to remember those that inspired us, back in the late 80ā€™s Todd Terry was a giant, his sound influenced a generation , he was perhaps unwittingly part of the upcoming Hip House movementā€¦..

Tony Scott had this killer EP that was on every credible djā€™s list despite it being a crossover hit. Deservedly so as it was brilliant.

I read a few pages today saying Tony had passed away and it took me back to 1989, his ep made you look like a hero when you DJā€™d, artists like that made what we do feel exciting/exceptional RIP Tony Scott šŸ–¤

ps the last time I played this when I djā€™d on a friends boat for 30 mins on vinyl, I saw it in his collection, it made me smile finding it and it made me feel like a hero playing it again to a group of Amsterdammers šŸ–¤

30 years ago my Xmix Electro Boogie was released. Horst (now sadly passed away) approached me and I wanted to do an Electro Compilation, I had a long lasting love affair and respect for the genre even then.

I wanted to feature past and present artists as both were important for me and the story that needed to be told.

There was one of those crazy videos ā€œof the timeā€ that accompanied it on VHS tape (it was featured at the Melkweg Cinema during my last ADE edition of DC Presents)

The release did very well and Horst asked for more, but I wanted it to have a series, so along with my 2nd part I invited Aux 88 and Depth Charge to join.

Thank you to Horst and the K7 team at the time for entrusting meā€¦..and yes Electro is still vital to me and features on a whole show on every other White Noise , it still sounds insane and inspiring, the producers keep breaking sonic barriers šŸ–¤

Napoli, for over 30 years you have given me your heart and trust and love, a love so heartfelt that it is always emotional to receive, it is as uncomplicated as it is pure, I sit in the airport after a few hours sleep with a deep feeling of completeness.
Thank you all for coming down, thank you INTERNĪ”TIONĪ”L TĪ”LENTĀ® for always giving me a great stage (and fireworks) and all of you that came down to the gig at Flava Beach.

Spent an evening processing the untimely passing of Trevor.

Trevor was a maverick in an ultrasafe risk avoidant corporate music scene, he had the biggest passion and belief, put music first.

Even though he will be rightly remembered as a crucial part of the well deserved Fontaines DC success story, he also was deeply knowledgeable about the good things in other music including Techno history as he would often be seen in Dublin nightlife.

Dublin has lost a believer and a talent catalyst and a gentleman maverick šŸ–¤.

Thank you Trevor for your vision and musical / political belief. Strength to all who feel the loss.
