May has arrived with muses, dreams, rehearsals, and shared meals at Hartwig Proxy.

Tuesday 19 May: The third Tuesday of the month calls for 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐱𝐲 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞. 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧 () and 𝐃𝐮𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐞 () prepare a dinner shaped by relocation and substitution, bringing Chilean and Korean references through ingredients found in the Netherlands. €18 includes a meal and two drinks. RSVP highly recommended.

12 & 21 May: Two Proxy Choir workshops, open to all voices and experiences. On 12 May with 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐚 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (), and on 21 May with 𝐉𝐨𝐝𝐢 𝐆𝐢𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 (). Drop in and join.

In the Video Room this May, two films run in parallel: The ADHD Muses (2025) by 𝐁𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐧-𝐇𝐮𝐲 (, the namesake of Bernadette Corporation), and 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐲 𝐏𝐨𝐨𝐧 ()’s latest film I Am Alpha (2025).

See our full programme and RSVP forms via the link in the bio.

Throughout May, the pot stays warm: 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐰 at lunchtime, magazines spread across the tables.

See you soon, and often, at Proxy ###

This was Minor Music in Venice.

Saidiya Hartman’s ‘Minor Music at the End of the World’ took the stage at the emblematic Teatro Goldoni in Venice. Three sold-out performances, more than 1700 spectators.

Directed by Sarah Benson and featuring André Holland, with movement by Okwui Okpokwasili, and performances by Bria Bacon, Audrey Hailes, and AJ Wilmore. The staged performance also includes a film by Arthur Jafa and a haunting landscape by Precious Okoyomon.

This collective creation unfolds as a layered exploration of Black life and what endures beyond catastrophe—resonating deeply with the present moment.

SEAWORLD VENICE by Florentina Holzinger () dives into the paradox of Venice, where water is life, waste, spectacle, and crisis all at once. Blending dance, theatre, and performance, bodies move through a hybrid world of lagoon, machine, and ritual, exposing what we try to hide: pollution, excess, and vulnerability.

Take a look at the first snapshots of the during the opening of the Venice Biennale.

Hartwig Art Foundation is a Lead Partner of SEAWORLD VENICE and Commissioner of the Closing Étude, a site specific performance scheduled to take place at the end of the Biennale. More info soon!

Step into the oeuvre of Sara Sejin Chang (Sara van der Heide) at Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd, where her first comprehensive exhibition in the Netherlands, Transmutation, is presented by Centraal Museum.

Across her practice, Chang interrogates the colonial and Eurocentric “blueprint” that continues to shape hierarchies and structures in Europe and globally, including the large-scale transracial adoption industry rooted in colonial power relations. Through poetic and enchanting installations, she seeks to undo and transform these structures of thought.
