At Hartwig Proxy, every scoop tells a story. 🍨

Guava, chocolate sorbet, strawberry madame jeanette, coconut, pandan, and Madagascan vanilla: just a few of the flavours we’ve been serving at Hartwig Proxy, brought to you by 𝐃𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐞 𝐕𝐨𝐬 from Icarus Gelato Bloemendaal.

Vanilla, a flavour we often take for granted, carries a remarkable history. Cultivated by Indigenous peoples in present-day Mexico for centuries, it was transformed into a global crop in 1841 through the hand-pollination technique developed by Edmond Albius, a 12-year-old enslaved boy on Réunion Island in the Indian Ocean.

7 August: Four Terrible Parents
Join us for an evening and reading with 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐇𝐞𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐥 (Calla Henkel) to celebrate her new novel Four Terrible Parents — a story of four artists, a crumbling hotel in the American South, and a radical attempt to reinvent family before everything falls apart. With cocktails by 𝐌𝐦𝐦… 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐏𝐢𝐞 (Mmm..Money Pie).

8 August: Cellar Series 3 *
For the third concert in our downstairs space, artist 𝐍𝐠𝐮𝐲ễ𝐧 𝐙𝐞𝐧 𝐌ỹ performs as 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐨 𝐇𝐢𝐭𝐨 (Nguyen Zen My). Working with voice and Casio keyboards, she transforms contemporary poetry into intimate, restrained songs, balancing minimal electronics with the tradition of the art song.

18 August: Proxy Family Table
Chef and artist 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐢𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐧 (Louis Dercon) returns to the Proxy stoves with a new menu transforming some of his most loved lunchtime soups from recent months into solid form. Salade au pistou, watercress velouté, black lentils with squid and squid ink, and tomato with melon. €18 incl. two drinks. RSVP is highly recommended.

27 August: Proxy Choir
Vocalise into autumn with 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐱𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐫, led again by maestro 𝐉𝐨𝐝𝐢 𝐆𝐢𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 (Jodi Gilbert), with a continued focus on improvisation and listening.

Sara Sejin Chang (Sara van der Heide) presents Transmutation, her first comprehensive solo exhibition in the Netherlands, at Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd with Centraal Museum.

Among the works on view is Hollands Kabinet (2010–12): 558 watercolours made daily between the formation and collapse of the first Dutch minority government led by Mark Rutte, backed by the the far-right Party for Freedom. Created as an act of poetic resistance to the normalisation of far-right politics, the series reimagines the Dutch cabinet, both government and furniture, as a meditation on politics, identity, and Dutchness. Its title plays on this double meaning, while recurring brown tones evoke historical associations with fascism and the Brownshirts.

On view this summer at Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd. This programme is a partner project of Hartwig Art Foundation.

We are renovating and transforming the former courthouse of Amsterdam into a new museum of contemporary art.

The monumental walls, part of the Brutalist masterpiece designed by architect Loerakker in 1978, are being carefully restored to their original state, thanks to the craftsmanship of Jeffrey from Meesters In. Check out the complete process (starting from photo n.2).

A huge thank you to Jeffrey, J.P. van Eesteren | TBI and all the contractors who have contributed so far with their hard work, expertise, and dedication. We wish them a well-deserved summer break!

12 July: introducing music at Proxy: Cellar Series #1
Proxy opens a new series of intimate musical performances on alternating Saturdays over summer. Rotterdam-based cellist 𝐋𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐣𝐚 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐯 (Lucija Gregov) inaugurates the series with a solo set in Proxy’s cool basement.

15 July: Proxy Family Table
You’re in for a treat: this month’s 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐱𝐲 𝐅𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐓𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, the now-regular gathering on the third Tuesday of the month, is hosted by artists 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐬 and 𝐏𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐳𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐨 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐜𝐚𝐦 (Gerardo Contreras & Pablo Rezzonico Bongcam). The menu, developed with the help of their mothers: micheladas, sopa fría, kibbeling tacos & torta de choclo. €18 incl. two drinks. RSVP is highly recommended.

26 July: Cellar Series #2
Second intimate concert, this time with Amsterdam-based Dominican artist 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐜 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐨 (), working across music, text, and sound, Mateo builds dense, layered sonic worlds between lo-fi R&B, experimental ambience, and spoken word.

9 July: Proxy Choir (rescheduled after the heatwave)
𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐚 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (Laura Polence) returns after the heatwave postponement. Wear comfortable clothes, bring your voice. No experience needed.

🌕 Under the Full Moon, Keti Koti and shared culinary heritage across geographies

Tuesday 30 June: Full Moon at Hartwig Proxy
On the eve of Keti Koti, together with 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐚-𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 (Beta Local, Puerto Rico), 𝐏𝐢𝐯ô 𝐒𝐚𝐥𝐯𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫 (Pivô Salvador, Brazil), and 𝐊𝐈𝐏 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 (KIP Republic, Dutch Caribbean), we will explore how culinary traditions carry histories of resistance, migration, and connection across the Caribbean diaspora. Join us for an evening of drinks, spice-inspired bites, conversation, music, and film.

Wednesday 1 July: Free Heri Heri For All
We commemorate and celebrate 𝐊𝐞𝐭𝐢 𝐊𝐨𝐭𝐢 at Proxy with 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐢 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐥𝐥 (freeheriheriforall), served by 𝐊𝐈𝐏 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜. Keti Koti means “broken chains” and marks the abolition of slavery in Suriname and the Dutch Caribbean.Join us for a free portion of traditional heri heri from 12:00–19:00 (to eat in or take away, while supplies last).

At 18:00, artist 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐲 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 (.g) will give a performance lecture: Redress, Repair, Return: The Implications of the Recovery of the Zoutsteeg Three. Music throughout the day will be provided via a special playlist by artist 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐚 𝐒𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐜 (). All the details + free RSVP via the link in bio.

Aria Dean’s theatre piece: The Color Scheme

A one-night-only performance. The Poet and the Philosopher meet in Tiergarten in 1923, unfolding a fundamental conversation on beauty and the rise of 20th-century political movements. The stage becomes a film set — The Color Scheme is a play that becomes a movie that becomes a play that becomes a movie.
