We are excited to share the news of an upcoming auction organised by Jeroen Koolhaas. Our former colleague and co-founder of the Favela Painting project is offering the opportunity to acquire amazing artworks to support our fundraising efforts for the Favela Mosaico project in Rio. This project is part of the legacy of our collaboration as well as a celebration of the fact that the crew in Rio is now running the project autonomously!
The project is a restoration of a painting we made in 2008 with Master Tattooist Rob Admiraal, depicting a river with carp swimming upstream. To make a mosaic of this scale seemed impossible at first, but the crew in Rio proved otherwise and has already turned a part into the most amazing outdoor artwork imaginable, which you can see on the amazing pictures by Andrew Lenz
The project not only yields beauty, but also offers opportunities. The crew became experts in the field of mosaic, taught by Rio-based ‘Cosmonauta Mosaicos’. So far the foundation has been supporting the work, but your support is needed to keep things going. The proceeds of the auction - as well as all donations to our crowdfunder - will go 100% to the crew in Rio to cover salaries and materials.
