The electronic music world has lost a true visionary. German DJ and producer Philipp Jung has passed away — best known as the co-founder of Get Physical Music and one half of the legendary duo M.A.N.D.Y.
Before becoming a globally respected artist, Jung built his reputation in the 1990s through influential A&R work at major labels, developing a sharp instinct for groundbreaking talent. In 2002, he moved to Berlin and helped establish Get Physical Music together with Patrick Bodmer, DJ T., and Booka Shade, creating a platform driven by artistic independence and forward-thinking sound.
The label soon became one of the most influential names in electronic music, earning worldwide recognition for its distinctive blend of tech-house, melodic grooves, and crossover club records. In 2005, Get Physical was awarded DJ Magazine’s “Label of the Year,” helping shape a sound that connected underground dance floors with wider audiences around the globe. Jung also played an important role in the direction of Kindisch, the label’s deeper and more atmospheric sister imprint.
As part of M.A.N.D.Y alongside Patrick Bodmer, Philipp Jung helped define an era of electronic music with unforgettable records such as “Tonite” and the timeless collaboration with Booka Shade, “Body Language” — tracks that became staples of clubs and festivals worldwide.
In later years, after decades spent touring internationally, Jung continued exploring new artistic paths. Alongside revisiting the rich legacy of Get Physical through curated retrospective projects, he launched Metaphysical — a more album-oriented label focused on melodic indie dance, ambient textures, and experimental musical ideas beyond traditional club music.
Electronic Groove recently spoke with him about his project “Rewind Forward Vol. 1,” his life in Costa Rica, and the exciting chapter of becoming a father.
