What a nice present from Irene Coletto to mark Dancing Fox's 6th Birthday! Thanks to all you wonderful troublemakers who've been making mischief with us since 2016! For context, when we started our Foxy little agency David Bowie was still alive, Pokemon Go was everywhere, Beyoncé had just released the video for Formation, and (never forget) was huge on an app called Vine.

Fox Facts 👉

🦊 To help themselves navigate, foxes have whiskers on their legs as well as their face. Researchers have described these whiskers as acting like an animal’s natural GPS which comes in handy when foxes move through tall grass when their visibility is limited.

🦊 Some foxes use the Earth’s magnetic field as a targeting system to measure the distance to its prey and increase the accuracy of their attacks.

🦊 Foxes have very bushy tails which gives them the ability to balance all year round. When foxes walk on narrow paths, their heavy tails ensure their stability by acting as a counterbalance to the rest of their body.

Perhaps Mother Earth pressed pause to give us time to experience what a slowed down world feels like, and to realise how easily we could wake up in its arms

💫 T O G E T H E R • W E • R I S E 💫⠀

Like a hungry caterpillar that consumes with a rapacious appetite, so we humans have taken much from the earth, while giving little back in return. ⠀

But just as the caterpillar goes through a great metamorphosis only to emerge as a multi-dimensional being — so we too have the potential to emerge from this truly transformational time and rise together with silken wings as generative beings, free from the shackles of greed, judgement and division. ⠀⠀
But only if we allow ourselves to be changed by this Great Change.

As we have seen, the pandemic is visiting the poor and the marginalized with oversized consequences, and is throwing a powerful spotlight on the inequalities and fragilities built into our systems. For too many people, there exists no safety net – whether it’s savings to protect them from job loss, health care they can afford, access to the protections enjoyed by the privileged, or the expectation of equal protection under the law. The pandemic invited us to measure every life equally, and then revealed how profoundly — and systemically — we fail to do so.⠀

We stand in the midst of a great opportunity. ⠀

A time where we must take leadership from the most impacted, listen deeply, and collectively begin the great work of building communities and societies that are made by all — for all — leaving nobody behind. ⠀

Because as Emma Lazurus so eloquently put it, “Until we are all free, we are none of us free.”⠀

✨ Beautiful questions ✨

When did you last change your mind about something after learning new information, and how did it make you feel when you did?⠀

After the Titanic sank the rules changed to require life rafts and lifeboats for all passengers. What ideas do you have for how we can emerge from these times more joyful, resilient and more closely connected than ever before?⠀

I N S P I R A T I O N⠀

As artists, creatives, and change-makers, it is vital that we take time to refresh, rest, and allow our imaginations to roam vast and unchartered territories. ⠀

After all, many of our best ideas come when we are not directly working on the creative challenge at hand, and as Mark Twain suggested, new ideas are often involve taking old ideas and putting them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope, where "we give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations."⠀

On our visit to Italy last September to plot the creation of our wizarding school "Fire & Honey" with our friends at Latte Creative (more on that in a future post) we took some time out to explore the incredible collection of Egyptian artefacts at Turino's Museo Egizio.⠀

As big fans of Egyptian mythology we were particularly blown away by a chamber filled with statues of the lioness-headed Sekhmet, Goddess of war, destruction, healing and dance — whose fiery breath is said to have given birth to the desert.⠀

The greek root of the word "inspire" means to "breath in", and in these wild and unpredictable times, it is more important than ever to take some time to breathe in, and to allow ourselves to be flooded by the beauty of the world and the wisdom of the ancients. ⠀

After all, if you do, who knows what you might create with your (fiery) out-breath. ⠀

What has been setting fire to your imagination recently?⠀

With many museums closed, where have you been looking for inspiration these last months?

"Make the normal look weird and the weird look normal."

The history of activism is the history of making the weird look normal and the normal weird. Which is why a time like this, in which a is being born, is an opportunity to . Here's some great weekend reading on how we can do that. Share your faves to be a part of our month-long culture hack to support a post-covid world with less plastic, less carbon, less inequality, less hate and more empathy, generosity, care for Mother Earth, and more cities singing together from balconies. Because singing from balconies shouldn't be weird.

We've been working on a super exciting "Narrative Shift" project that YOU can be a part of! It's a straight-up attempt to create a cross-movement, multi-channel hack of the zeitgeist to from the pandemic and leave the old toxic "normal" behind.

We've identified 8 stories that Covid-19 has made blaze up with new truth: lessons the pandemic is teaching us about connection, consequences, the power of acting together, the things that truly matter, and the importance of community and inclusiveness in building resilience.

We see these stories as feeding the deep roots of so many of our efforts - from climate change to plastic pollution to human rights to racial injustice to animal rights and economic reform.

These are stories designed to connect movements, to make us all stronger.

We've launched a resource hub, We Were Made For These Times, where you can download an initial set of images and grab boilerplate text to modify as you like. You can then take those stories and amplify them, show examples of them in action, and push them deep into the collective imagination through your social media channels.

This initial set of artworks are by the marvelous . We've commissioned more artists and more images that will be available soon.

Every crisis is an opportunity, and we’ve been given an amazing chance here to rethink our future and take action against the multiple ills and weaknesses that this pandemic has shown a spotlight on, and to take action now to prevent the crises, far greater than Covid-19, that we know are in our future unless we act. So act we must. We were made for these times.

Just wrapping up Part III of our storytelling adventure with those wonderful, cephalopod-loving 🐙 folks at WWF, exploring the mystery and beauty of the Mediterranean (and the narratives that can inspire us to protect it) 🌊

While there is an inescapable magic to meeting in-person for playshops and trainings (especially when we do them on sail boats with swim-breaks and dolphin’s rescuing stray post-it notes for us 🐬) these online sessions are wonderful proof of our ability as humans to squash time and space and learn, laugh, and connect with stories that speak to our hearts.

Already excited for our next adventure together 🐼✨🦊

A BIG thank you to everyone who attended, to our partners One Resilient Earth Centre for Alternative Technology Network of Wellbeing - NOW.

Thank you to our speakers, and to our amazing team who put this together. We really hope that it helped inform, energise, bring value, find ways of regeneration so you can say YES in action, in togetherness, in connection. To say YES to creativity & how it's inextricably linked to sustainability. In the importance of growing our imaginations so we can find the solutions together.

There is hope.

The plastic pollution crisis is complex and intersectional. Decisions made in the boardrooms of multinational corporations in the global north affect marginalized communities all over the world including waste picker and worker groups who have to deal with the plastic waste they produce.

Together with Changemakers let’s hold the top corporate polluters accountable. 💪
