Presenting "Achter de Woestijnweg" 🎬
This week, The Netherlands commemorates WWII's end on August 15th, 1945, remembering those impacted by the Japanese occupation in the former Dutch East Indies.
Emerging from this era, the Moluccan community relocated to the Netherlands after serving alongside the Dutch in the KNIL (The Royal Netherlands East Indies Army). What began as a temporary stay in 1951-1952 evolved into a lasting resettlement due to changing circumstances and unmet promises.
The documentary delves into the Moluccan community's history, recounting the 1976 eviction from the Vaassen village barracks.
In the early hours of October 14, 1976, hundreds faced an armed police force, driven by suspicion of weaponry. This event left enduring scars amid political denial, echoing a layered colonial past.
Rooted in a layered colonial past, the film highlights the disparity between expectations and reality. Almost five decades later, the echoes of this eviction persist, serving as a catalyst for healing and showcasing remarkable resilience.
"Achter de Woestijnweg" stands as a collective effort by residents of the Gelderse neighbourhood, echoing the voices of the Moluccan community.
Through our contribution to sound and music, we're honoured to be part of this narrative. 🙏🏼🎶🎵
