🚨 DID YOU KNOW THAT OXYGEN AND WATER CAN TURN SHINY IRON INTO RUST? 😱🧪

That reddish-brown substance you see on old iron gates isn't just dirt. It's the result of a chemical reaction!

🔬 THE CHEMISTRY EXPLAINED:

Rusting occurs when iron reacts with oxygen in the presence of water or moisture. During this process, iron atoms lose electrons, meaning iron is oxidized.

The reaction produces hydrated iron(III) oxides and related compounds, collectively called RUST.

🧪 THE SCIENCE:

- Iron (Fe): The metal undergoing oxidation.
- Oxygen (O₂): Participates in the rusting reaction.
- Water (H₂O): Helps the electrochemical reactions take place.
- Rust: A mixture of hydrated iron(III) oxides and related compounds.

💡 WHY DOES IT MATTER?

Unlike the protective oxide layer that forms on some metals, rust is porous and flaky. It does not protect the underlying iron effectively, so corrosion can continue.

🚀 They’re officially home!

After nearly 8 months in space, NASA’s SpaceX Crew-12 astronauts — Jessica Meir, Jack Hathaway, Sophie Adenot, and Andrey Fedyaev — have successfully returned to Earth.

🌊 Their Dragon spacecraft successfully splashed down in the Pacific Ocean, completing their journey home. The recovery team has now reached the capsule, and all four astronauts have been helped out of the spacecraft.

After months of living and working aboard the International Space Station, their mission is officially complete.
