CHRISM MASS
At this Mass, the bishop blesses three special oils used in the Church throughout the year:
1. Oil of the Sick (Oleum Infirmorum)
Used for the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick
Brings healing, strength, and comfort to those who are ill
2. Oil of Catechumens (Oleum Catechumenorum)
Used for people preparing for baptism
Symbolizes strength and preparation to live a Christian life
3. Sacred Chrism (Sanctum Chrisma)
A mixture of olive oil and fragrant balsam
Used in important sacraments like:
Baptism
Confirmation
Holy Orders
Also used to consecrate churches and altars
This oil is not just blessed—it is consecrated by the bishop
These oils are then distributed to parishes and used throughout the year in various sacraments.
