BREAKING: President Tinubu meets Suspended Governor Fubara in London over Rivers political crisis

According to The Africa Report, the meeting took place in London last week, shortly after Tinubu left Paris.

The meeting, it was learnt, was at the insistence of Governor Fubara, who has been desperate to return to office since the president declared a state of emergency in oil-rich Rivers State.

During the meeting, Fubara promised to make some compromises.

Negotiations are ongoing, but from all indications, his suspension will be lifted before the six-month deadline,” said an adviser to the president who wished to remain anonymous because he was not authorised to speak to the press.

Another presidential aide said Fubara is also open to joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to ingratiate himself with the president and then obtain cover.

“If Fubara joins the APC, it means the president’s chances of winning Rivers State are much higher,” he says.

The Africa Report was informed that Fubara’s estranged godfather, Nyesom Wike, was not part of the meeting and was uncomfortable with such meetings taking place behind his back.

However, Tinubu is expected to broker a meeting between Fubara, Wike, and the Rivers State lawmakers to find a lasting solution to the crisis in the state.

AGAIN, RIVERS WOMEN STAGE PROTEST, DEMAND END TO EMERGENCY RULE
..Accuse Solad, Rivers CP of abuse of power

Women in Rivers state have called for immediate termination of the emergency rule imposed on the state by the federal government.

The women under the umbrella of the Rivers Women Unite Prayer Group maintained that the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the state legislature to impose a Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), has exposed the ulterior and politically motivated intentions behind the emergency rule.

Expressing their disenchantment with the current state of Rivers, the women in a statement signed by Dr. Nancy Chidi Nwankwo and Dr. Vivian Ige-Elenwo, accused Ibas and the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju of abuse of power against residents opposed to the emergency rule.

The statement reads, "One month after assuming control, rather than fostering reconciliation among the political stakeholders, Vice Admiral Ibas has deepened the divide. The Sole Administrator's actions of dismantling democratic institutions and orchestrating policies aimed at achieving political domination serve only the interests of those who appointed him.

"Women of Rivers firmly reject every attempt to stifle voices of our people or frustrate legitimate dissent. We condemn in strong terms the dictatorial tendencies of Vice Admiral Ibas and the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju.

"On Friday, April 11, 2025, we held a peaceful protest against the injustice meted out to our state. Shockingly, the police responded with force, deploying tear gas and brute intimidation in bid to silence our democratic right to peaceful assembly.

"Yet, on April 14, 2025, same Sole Administrator Ibas reportedly sponsored a counter-protest, hiring thugs to masquerade as Rivers women in support of the illegal state of emergency, an act that was shamefully protected by the same CP who had earlier brutalized real Rivers women for peacefully speaking out."

Highlighting the negative impact on the populace, the statement noted, "This deliberate provocation and double standard is nothing short of sabotage and the quashing of democratic rights.

"The economic impact of this ill-conceived emergency rule is already evident. Businesses are shutting down, planned investments are being relocated and the state’s economy is in free fall. As always, it is our women and children who bear the brunt of this upheaval and economic hardship."

The angry women who trooped out in their thousands protested along streets and major roads in Port Harcourt passing through the Government House main entrance and called on all "Nigerians of conscience, civil society groups, and particularly the National Assembly, to continue to speak out against this impunity and urgently act to reverse this deeply unpopular decision.

"It is disturbing to note that in many truly volatile regions of Nigeria, where communities are under siege by terrorists and where lives are being lost daily, the federal government has neither declared a state of emergency, suspended the governor or deployed adequate security forces.

"Yet, in Rivers State, over 10,000 police personnel and countless military operatives have been deployed — not for security, but for political intimidation under the guise of emergency rule.

"Just this Monday, women protesting against the emergency rule in Mbiama were again tear-gassed and brutalized, while another group of women who sang praises of the emergency rule were shielded and escorted by the police. This selective protection of sycophants while repressing genuine voices of concern is a grave injustice."

They demanded the immediate removal of the Rivers CP, Adepoju, total end to the illegal state of emergency imposed on Rivers, full restoration of all democratic institutions, including reinstatement of the duly elected Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

They further asked for, "Redeployment of military personnel to regions where they are truly needed, where citizens are being slaughtered and communities being ravaged by terrorists.

"Our beloved nation is teetering dangerously toward becoming a banana republic. This dissent must be halted, and Nigeria must be rescued from political tyranny and systemic impunity.

"We call on the international community to take firm stand, to intervene diplomatically and to prevail on Nigerian government to restore democracy and protect rights and dignity of the people of Rivers. Our people deserve peace, justice, and the freedom to thrive in a truly democratic society."

PRESS RELEASE BY SIMPLIFIED GRASSROOTS MOBILIZERS-SGM.

A CALL TO CONSTITUTIONAL ORDER AND JUSTICE IN RIVERS STATE

We have watched with dismayed the actions and activities of the imposed Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, on the governance and people of Rivers State.

The recent appointments of 23 Local Government Area Sole Administrators in Rivers State and the abrupt removal of duly elected RESIEC Chairman constitute a direct violation of the spirit and letter of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). These actions not only undermine democratic institutions but also desecrate the will of the people, as expressed through legitimate electoral processes.

Section 7(1) of the Constitution clearly states:
“The system of local government by democratically elected local government councils is under this Constitution guaranteed...”
This provision is unambiguous. The imposition of unelected Sole Administrators is an unlawful usurpation of power and a blatant disregard for constitutional democracy.

Since the arrival of Ibas, who was ostensibly appointed to restore peace and unity, Rivers State has instead witnessed an escalation of political tension and administrative instability. We challenge Ibas to present a comprehensive report to the good people of Rivers State detailing:

1. The exact nature of the so-called chaos that justified the unconstitutional interventions;

2. The specific peace initiatives undertaken, if any, and their measurable impact on the society;

3. The legal basis for the removal of the RESIEC Chairman, and whether due process was followed.

His tenure has regrettably become synonymous with executive recklessness, political intimidation, and the erosion of local autonomy. The chaos that now reigns is a direct result of his intervention — a manufactured anarchy, threatening not just peace but the foundations of democracy and resource control.

Let it be known: these acts are condemnable under the law. They offend the democratic conscience of the people, violate the principles of federalism, and must be met with firm legal and civic resistance. We call on all democratic forces, civil society organizations, and the judiciary to rise in defense of the Constitution and the people of Rivers State.

We demand an end to this constitutional r**e and an immediate restoration of duly elected local governments in line with Section 7(1) of the Constitution.

Enough is enough. Rivers State deserves peace, not chaos; democracy, not dictatorship.

BREAKING: Court asked to sack Rivers’ Sole Administrator

The Federal High Court in Abuja has been petitioned to remove Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (rtd) from his position as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State.

The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday, names President Bola Tinubu as the first defendant, while the Attorney-General of the Federation, Vice Admiral Ibas, and the Attorneys-General of the 36 states are listed as the second to thirty-ninth defendants. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/572/2025, was initiated by Abuja-based lawyer Johnmary Jideobi.

In his filing, Jideobi is urging the court to nullify all actions and decisions made by Ibas in his capacity as Sole Administrator, arguing that his appointment is unconstitutional and lacks legal standing throughout Nigeria.

The plaintiff also seeks a permanent injunction preventing Tinubu—along with his officers, agents, and representatives—from removing, suspending, or interfering with the tenure of the Governor and Deputy Governor of Rivers State, or any other state in the country. Additionally, he requests a ruling that would prohibit the President from appointing a Sole Administrator to govern any of the 36 states for any reason.

In his Originating Summons, filed with a legal team led by Chimezie Enuka, Jideobi asks the court to determine whether, under the provisions of Sections 1, 5(2), 180, 188, 189, 305, and 306 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the President has any legal authority to remove, suspend, or interfere with the tenure of an elected Governor and Deputy Governor, and to appoint a Sole Administrator or any similar substitute.

He further requests that the court declare that, according to Section 305 of the Constitution, the only legal grounds for removing or disrupting the tenure of a sitting Governor or Deputy Governor are those specified under Sections 180, 188, 189, and 306.

The plaintiff argues that these constitutional provisions make it clear that the President has no authority to remove, suspend, or interfere with an elected state government’s leadership or appoint a Sole Administrator, such as Vice Admiral Ibas, in its place.

I'M NOT LINKED TO ANY MILITANT GROUP - GOV FUBARA

•Warns Against Fake Social Media Posts

Our attention has, once again, been drawn to a flurry of malicious, fake and imaginary videos of purported explosions on oil and gas facilities in Rivers State.

Virtually all the fake videos have been linked to alleged militant groups in the State, with the creators of such content trying very hard to connect them to supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Already, the communities where these incidents are alleged to have occurred have reacted, dismissing any claims of explosions on oil and gas facilities in their domains, and reassuring that all critical government assets within their areas are safe, secure and efficiently functioning.

For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal group or elements, anywhere in the State or Niger Delta, to undertake any action inimical to the peace of the people or safety and security of oil and gas facilities, and by extension, the economy of the country.

The Governor had repeatedly made it clear at every public event that the peace of the State is paramount to him, and that he would pay any price to secure and sustain peace in the State, as it is only in an atmosphere of peace and security that governance and development can thrive.

Governor Fubara vehemently warns purveyors of violence and economic sabotage to steer clear of the State, and avoid any attempt to use his name or capitalise on the present political crisis to foment trouble in the State.

It is also important to warn bloggers and social media hirelings to stop, forthwith, their campaign to create atmosphere of tension, chaos and anarchy in the State, as their fake reports and posts in the last couple of days have triggered enough wrong decisions that would not help the State move forward.

Security agencies should take note of these fake videos designed to misinform the people, and further paint the State in bad light, and take every necessary steps to contain them, and bring those behind them to book.

Signed

Nelson Chukwudi

JOINT STATEMENT BY THE SIMPLIFIED GRASSROOTS MOBILIZERS (SGM) ON THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL DECLARATION OF A STATE OF EMERGENCY IN RIVERS STATE: DEFENDING DEMOCRACY, RESISTING TYRANNY

The Simplified Grassroots Mobilizers (SGM), speaking on behalf of the peace-loving but resolute people of Rivers State, hereby issue this firm and uncompromising condemnation of the illegal, reckless, and unconstitutional declaration of a State of Emergency by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the disgraceful attempt to suspend our duly elected Governor, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, and his Deputy.

We state without fear or apology: this is a blatant act of executive lawlessness, a provocative assault on democracy, and a dangerous descent into autocracy. It is a direct violation of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and a calculated move towards federal tyranny and state capture.

1. Tinubu Has Unmasked Himself – The People Now Know the Enemy of Democracy

The veil has fallen. President Tinubu’s actions have fully exposed his long-nursed agenda against the people of Rivers State. The illegal declaration of a State of Emergency and the sham appointment of Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (rtd) as a so-called administrator is nothing short of a civilian coup.

Let it be clear: Tinubu is not a neutral leader but the chief architect of the political crisis in Rivers State, wielding the judiciary, legislature, and security agencies as weapons against a freely elected government. He has declared war on democracy and the people will not sit back.

2. We Say No to State Capture, No to Imperial Presidency

What President Tinubu seeks is not peace—it is conquest. Under the false pretense of oil resumption in Ogoniland, he wants to militarize Rivers, seize control of our resources, and annex our political structure for his personal empire.

But we serve him this warning: Rivers State is not Lagos. We are not slaves. Our people will not kneel to a dictator.

3. The People’s Mandate Must Be Respected – Anything Less Is Treason

Governor Siminalayi Fubara was elected by the people in a free and fair election. Any attempt to overthrow that mandate is treasonous and must be met with resolute resistance. This is not 1983. This is not a military dictatorship. And we are not afraid.

Let Tinubu and his collaborators be warned: The people of Rivers State will defend their mandate with every lawful force available.

4. No to One-Party Dictatorship – Nigeria Is Not a Private Estate

This declaration of emergency is nothing but an attempt to reduce Rivers State to a political colony and Nigeria into a one-party dictatorship. But this sinister script will fail.

There is no war in Rivers. No violence. No breakdown of order. What then justifies this illegal emergency, if not greed and obsession with power?

5. Our Demands and Final Warning

We issue the following demands, and we do so with a clear voice and unshakable resolve:

We reject and resist the unconstitutional declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.

We reaffirm our total allegiance to Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the sacred will of the people.

We call on President Tinubu to immediately reverse this disgraceful and treasonous action.

We call on the National Assembly to rise to its constitutional duty and REJECT this illegal emergency declaration. Failure to act will make them accomplices in the murder of democracy.

We urge the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria to rise and speak up. Today it is Rivers—tomorrow it may be your state.

**We call on the International Community—ECOWAS, African Union, United Nations, and global defenders of democracy—**to take a firm stand against this creeping dictatorship.

We call on the Nigerian Army and security agencies to remember their constitutional loyalty is to the people, not to a tyrant. The question is: Will you uphold the constitution, or will you turn your guns on the very citizens you swore to protect?

Let it be known: if a single innocent Rivers citizen is killed in the name of this illegal takeover, President Tinubu will be held personally responsible before history and humanity.

6. Occupy Now : The Battle for Democracy Has Begun

We call on all Rivers people youths, women, elders, workers, civil society group to occupy all democratic spaces. This is not just a protest. It is a resistance movement. It is a call to defend our rights, our constitution, our future.

Let President Tinubu hear us loud and clear: Rivers State will not be conquered. Rivers people will not be intimidated. And democracy will not die under our watch.

If this tyranny is allowed to stand, the very soul of Nigeria is at risk. But we will fight back peacefully, lawfully, but fiercely.

*RIVERS STATE OF EMERGENCY: TINUBU FINALLY UNMASKED HIMSELF*

The Simplified Grassroots Mobilizers (SGM) has condemned and rejected in strong term the unconstitutional declaration of a State of emergency by President Tinubu who suspended the democratically elected Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara GSSRS, his Deputy, and appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas(rtd) to govern Rivers State.

" Rivers People and Nigerians listened with regret and disappointment to the national broadcast by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it was a completely violation of the 1999 Constitution, full of biase against Rivers people.

Rivers People were confused , wanting to know who was really supporting and behind the drama in Rivers Political crises both through the Supreme Court ,but not until a State of emergency was declared by the man who claim to be a hero of Nigeria democracy that we know for sure Mr. Tinubu, as he finally unmasked himself as the man behind Rivers Political travails.

The action of President Tinubu therefore clearly borders on attempt at State capture, no wonder he fast-tracted the so called oil resumptions in Ogoniland , just to forcefully take over Rivers State but he will be resisted and highly disappointed.

Governor Fubara was democratically elected for a tenure of four years which cannot be unconstitutional abridged. We are not under military regime and Military cannot rule us .

What is in Rivers State that cannot be found in Lagos State? Is Mr. Tinubu not yet satisfied with Lagos Treasuries he has acquired even as Nigerian President?

The group lamented that President Tinubu only considered the interest of Wike against that of the Rivers People. The group also demand to know ," what really warranted the imposition of emergency rule in Rivers State ? Or is Mr. President turning Rivers into one party State or Nigeria into a fiefdom? This is a pure case of dictatorship because nobody has died, no gun shot , or it's only for him and wike to loot the resources of Rivers State? Or maybe Mr. President has been advised wrongly against Rivers State?

We were all aware how President influenced the Supreme Court judgements against our people. We are also aware how he Masterminded the governor failed impeachment attempts. We were aware of all his scripts , using Wike and his 27 Pro-Assembly members.

The group Director General, Hon. Norisia Wilfred Pepple, call on the president to recall decision in the best interest of the constitution and practice of democracy under his administration.

He also used the medium to call on all Rivers People and our youths to occupy government today because it's not against Governor Siminalayi Fubara but us as Rivers citizens.

17/03/2025

We will not continue to wait for the so-called Assembly members, if they would rather not receive the 2025 budget because of the proposed local government council election, and some commissioners in my cabinet that they believe are illegal, then they leave us with no choice but to return to our 3-man assembly, this time Sokari Goodboy will be the speaker.

Let me say this here, I am the Governor of Rivers State, and not the local government chairman of Government House, I will not let anyone within or outside the state undermine my authority given to me by the people of the state.

I think we have given Mr. President and the Supreme Court too much undeserving respect, enough is enough.

Henceforth, we will make our decisions and policies in line with orders from Rivers State High Court only, and if these external forces push us further, we will react in a manner they will never imagine.

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara speaking with a high-level delegation of PANDEF that paid him a solidarity visit at Government House, Port Harcourt on Sunday,
