THE DAY I STARTED SHOWING MY WORK
In my early years of crocheting, I usually stayed at home to work on my crochet pieces. I was comfortable creating behind closed doors because, at that time, many people around me did not really understand crochet. Some people saw it as just a children’s hobby, something small or not serious. Many only knew about it from their childhood memories or seeing school activities where children learned simple crafts.
Because of this mindset, I rarely showed my work outside. I continued improving my skills quietly, creating different pieces with the hope that one day people would see the value in what I was making.
But as time went on, I decided to step out of my comfort zone. I started crocheting in public, sitting outside where people could see me working with my yarn and hook. I wanted people to know that crochet was more than just a hobby — it was a skill, an art, and something that could become a business.
At first, it was not easy. Some people would stop to look, some would ask questions, and some would admire my work. I started bringing some of my finished pieces outside so people could see the things I created with my hands.
Whenever someone showed interest, I would explain what I made and let them know I could recreate similar pieces for them. I received compliments, but I also experienced rejection. Some people were interested but could not place orders, while others simply did not understand the value behind handmade work.
Still, I kept my hopes high because I knew that every person who saw my work was a chance for someone new to recognize my talent.
Slowly, things started changing. A few people began supporting me. Some became customers, and some appreciated my hard work even without buying. Their encouragement reminded me that consistency matters.
Now, I have learned that if you never showcase your work, people may never know what you are capable of creating. Sometimes the right person is waiting to discover your talent, but they can only find you when you allow your work to be seen.
So this is me sharing my crochet journey — the story behind my handmade pieces, the courage it took to show my work, and the belief that every stitch carries a story.
