OUR TIME VS THEIR TIME

Our parents’ generation:

If your teacher said, “Your child did something wrong,” your parents would first apologize to the teacher before asking what happened. The matter could continue at home with a serious “family meeting.”

Back then, one look from Mama or Daddy could make a child remember all their sins.

But today…

“Don’t shout at my child.”
“My child has a right to express themselves.”
“Let’s talk about their feelings.”

And honestly, there is wisdom in both generations.

The old school gave us respect, discipline, and responsibility, but sometimes lacked emotional understanding.

The new school gives children confidence, communication, and emotional support, but sometimes forgets that children still need boundaries.

The question is:

Are we raising children who are confident but disrespectful, or disciplined but afraid?

The best parenting is not about choosing old school or new school. It is about combining love with discipline, correction with understanding, and freedom with responsibility.

Because a child who learns respect at home will carry it everywhere.

One of the biggest myths in marriage is believing that a great mother automatically makes a great wife or vice versa.

The truth is, a woman can be an incredible mother and still struggle in her marriage. She can also be an exceptional wife and find motherhood overwhelming.

Why?

Because motherhood and marriage require different skill sets.

A mother is called to nurture, protect, teach, and raise children. A wife is called to build a partnership through communication, respect, trust, emotional support, intimacy, and teamwork.

Success in one role doesn't automatically translate to success in the other.

The encouraging news is that neither role is determined by talent alone. Both can be learned, strengthened, and refined.

A thriving marriage and a healthy family are built by people who are willing to grow, people who embrace feedback, improve their communication, resolve conflict with wisdom, seek godly counsel, and choose love even when it's difficult.

No one becomes an exceptional wife or mother by accident. Excellence is cultivated through intentional choices, consistent effort, humility, and a lifelong commitment to becoming better.

Be committed to growing in both roles. Your family will reap the rewards.
