Girlfriend allegedly sets boyfriend’s children ablaze over alleged cheating in Benue

The Police in Benue have arrested one Mbalumen Ikyenge for allegedly setting ablaze the house of her boyfriend identified as Aondoyima Ierkwagh, leading to the de@th of his two daughters aged four and six in Zaki-Biam, Ukum LGA.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Udeme Edet, said the command received a report from the father of the deceased girls alleging that a person set his house on fire. Edet said the command is yet to determine the motive behind the attack.

Some neighbors, however, alleged that the incident stemmed from a relationship dispute.

The witnesses said the suspect visited the residence of her boyfriend on Sunday night July 5, but was asked to leave. The disgruntled girlfriend reportedly refused to leave as she suspected another woman was with her boyfriend in the house.

The witnesses further claimed that Lerkwagh had locked his two daughters in a separate round hut before retiring to another hut.

According to the witnesses, at about midnight, the suspect set the hut ablaze, believing another woman was inside, but the fire engulfed the structure where the two girls were sleeping.

Neighbours were said to have rescued the children and rushed them to the hospital, where they later d!ed from severe burns.

Edet said the command was investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Have you heard what is happening inside Presidency?

Have you heard of what is happening inside A*o Rock?

Are you even aware that someone by name, Prince Adeyemi, is publicly claiming he paid ₦600 million just to be appointed to head a Federal agency?

No, this is not a movie, this is not Nollywood ooo.

According to Prince Adeyemi, he paid ₦400 million upfront and was expected to pay another ₦200 million later.

But that's not even the biggest part of the story.

He says the real trouble started when he refused to part with 48 percent of a ₦24 billion take-off grant meant for the agency he was appointed to head.

Now, before anyone jumps to conclusions, these are his allegations.

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has denied any connection with the agency altogether.

And that is exactly where this story becomes unbelievable.

The Chief of Staff says the agency does not exist.

Prince Adeyemi says it does.

Not only that, he says it has over ₦1 billion in the Appropriation Act, over 300 approved staff by the head of service of the federation, and even accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Now tell me...

If the agency does not exist, who inserted its budget into the Appropriation Act? Who approved over 300 staff? Who processed the files? Who opened the accounts? Or are all these claims completely fabricated?

On the other hand, if the agency truly exists, then why is the Presidency denying its existence?

Can you see why this matter cannot simply be dismissed?

Somebody is not telling Nigerians the truth.

Personally, I am less interested in the drama than in the documents.

Produce the appointment letter.

Produce the budget.

Produce the payroll.

Produce the CBN records.

Produce the evidence of the alleged payments, if they exist.

Let Nigerians see who is lying.

Because if a man can wake up one morning and falsely accuse the Chief of Staff to the President of collecting ₦600 million and demanding a share of ₦24 billion, then that is a national scandal.

Either way, this matter deserves much more than a press statement.

We deserves answers.

Weekly returns and unofficial collections have continued to bring embarrassment to the Nigeria Police Force, with many motorists subjected to harassment, extortion and unnecessary delays. Genuine police reform cannot be achieved while officers are allegedly expected to remit money to those they know.

The time has come for the Police leadership to confront this reality and implement real reforms. Officers should be assessed based on professionalism, intelligence gathering and service to the people, not on how much money they generate from the roads.

Ending illegal collections, improving officers' welfare, enforcing accountability and punishing corrupt practices will help restore public confidence and bring honour back to the Force. Nigerians deserve a police institution that protects lives and property, not one associated with daily embarrassment and exploitation.

The Police leadership must wake up and take decisive action. Real reforms can no longer wait.
