“When There Is No Light”

In many Nigerian neighbourhoods, electricity lines cut through nature, yet power itself remains uncertain. The coconut tree stands tall beside electric poles and tangled wires—symbols of promise, disruption, and resilience.

This painting reflects the familiar reality of “no light”: wires stretched across the sky, poles firmly planted, yet darkness still visits our homes. The coconut tree becomes a witness—rooted, patient, and enduring—reminding us that life continues despite broken systems.

Through heavy textures and intersecting lines, I explore tension between nature and infrastructure, hope and frustration, presence and absence. Even when there is no light, there is strength, survival, and the quiet power of endurance.
