THE "AFTER THOUGHT" SERIES 2: THE ESSENTIALS

Hi there,

It's good to have you on The "AFTERTHOUGHTS" Series, where I guide my audience on how to be proactive and plan for desired outcomes in their spaces so as to avoid the stress that comes with afterthoughts on your projects.

I guess you came across my last post where I laid a foundation for the series, defining what an afterthought is, why they happen, and what to do when they occur.

Now that the terms are clear, let's get on some real life cases, starting with what I would love to call THE ESSENTIALS.

You will agree with me that there are features that are absolutely necessary, indispensable, or fundamental to the functionality of a space. For example, the need for a cooker in the kitchen.

As obvious as the essentials may seem, there are still instances where they are missed out, and I will be sharing and analysing one scenario in the following slides.

Let's get going πŸ‘‡

#1: WHAT HAPPENED

A friend-turned-client reached out to me for a kitchen fit out in his newly built apartment. My first site visit was virtual, after which I worked out a floorplan showing the ideal positions for essential features like cooker, microwave and oven (all in-built), and shared with him.

This was right before the wall tiles were laid, meaning I came onboard at the right time.

However on a second visit (physical this time), I realised the positioning of the outlets for the essentials as indicated in my designs were completely different from the site realities.

And guess what, the wall tiles at this point were completely laid 😭

THE "AFTER THOUGHT" SERIES: WELCOME ONBOARD

Hi Folks,

Trust this post meets you well.

The race for the final lap of the year has begun with the expectation of a Happy Ending. My desire for you is that you experience the best part of the year this quarterπŸ™

As usual, there is a line up of series for the 4th-quarter. Interestingly, I have one series focused on you, my wonderful audience, while the rest is split between myself and the community of folks who have taken one more step from being an audience to subscribing to our services.

Now to the series for the month, where I talk about AFTERTHOUGHTS; with the intention to guide my audience on how to be proactive and plan for desired outcomes in their spaces so as to avoid the stress that comes with after thoughts on their projects.

As I proceed, it will be helpful to lay a foundation on this subject with a quick definition of what an afterthought is in this context, why afterthoughts happen, and what to do when they occur.

All of these in today's post, then subsequently I will be back with real life cases you don't want to miss.

Please be my guest πŸ‘‡

#1: AFTERTHOUGHT DEFINED

An afterthought is an idea, plan, feature, or statement that is not part of an original design or intention, but is instead conceived, mentioned, or added later.

My choice of this definition is based on the emphasis on idea, plan and feature, and that's because they largely indicate an improvement or a good development.

So to make it clear, the title of this series holds no negative connotations towards my highly esteemed audience as in the case of calling a person or a detail an "afterthought".

4TH QUARTER 2026: A HAPPY ENDING!!

Happy New Month Peeps, and Happy Independence Celebration to Nigerians all over the world πŸ‡³πŸ‡¬

I'm glad we all made it to the final quarter of the year and I am quite optimistic about the final lap of the year being the best for you and I, hence the theme; A Happy Ending!

Here is a quick recap of what the first 3-quarters of the year has been all about.

🏎️ After GOING FULL GEAR in the 1st-quarter,

πŸ›ž we then MOTIONED FOR GREATNESS from April to June,

😎 after which we took a chill pill by WAITING A MINUTE in the 3rd -quarter.

Please do well to checkout all the insightful series rolled out on Consult Kenny POSTS up until nowπŸ‘‡

https://www.blogger.com/u/4/blog/posts/611154423946289818

As usual I have a line up of interesting series for my audience this quarter and here is a preview of what the last lap of the year holds.

Kindly come with me to have a feeler πŸ‘‡

: THE "AFTER THOUGHT" SERIES

It's interesting how much folks desire certain outcomes on their projects, but fail to have the appropriate measures in place to make it happen.

One instance that comes to mind is the demand for a floor-to-ceiling window treatment even when an air-conditioning duct is placed right above the window

This October, I will be talking to my audience on how to be proactive and plan for certain features in their spaces so as to avoid after thoughts on their projects πŸ˜”

This series kicks off on my next post.

THE "ORGANIZE" SERIES 4: ORGANIZE FOR PERSONA

Hi Folks,

I hope you are good and trust the month is rounding up well for you?

It's an exciting time as I bring the last post and series for the month and the 3rd-quarter of the year to an end.

I must acknowledge that your attention gives me a good reason to be here again, and that's something I do not take for granted πŸ™

In closing The "Organize" Series, permit me to first highlight some salient points from the previous posts before I proceed to the main course for today.

🧹 organizing your space results in improved productivity.

🎯 assigning a spot to every task gives you a higher chance for an orderly space.

🎁 attaching a reward to acts of orderliness encourages order.

✌️ understanding other people's personalities helps establish peace in your space.

Now to the part that applies to your own specific needs; Organizing for Persona, there are custom-made solutions for you and I've got 3 options for you to select from πŸ‘‡

#1: THE MASTER CLASS

Just take a moment to imagine a fashion designer using the same measurements for every person that walks into his/her shop to make an outfit. Chaos!, you say.

That's exactly what it means for me to address every of your space needs with just the few instances my posts can feature.

The mission with the Masterclass is to identify the dynamics of your own space and profer solutions that suits whatever challenges you have in there.

Here is how to get into any of our Masterclasses πŸ‘‡

We expect to hear from you.

THE "ORGANIZE" SERIES 3: ORGANIZE FOR PEACE

Hi Ya, trust this post meets you well.

And how is the weekend coming?

It's good to have you here again but before we get started please put off your shoes, place them on the mat at angle 45, and make sure it's not too close to the wall to avoid stains 😯

I'm sure you are already asking; What's going on here? πŸ€” πŸ˜‚

The expression above is my way of describing a personality that loves order in their space, I call them THE PROTECTOR.

On the flip side is a completely different personality who doesn't really care about orderly spaces, these ones are THE INTRUDERS.

A mix of these personalities in the same space could mean conflict or chaos and if care is not taken, things can go beyond keeping a space orderly to having relationships severed.

Although I happen to be a protector myself, my goal is not to take sides but rather share my experiences living with intruders and how I have been able to create a balance for the sake of peace.

I think you will find this more helpful than a list of storage ideas.

So here are my thoughts πŸ‘‡

#1: ACKNOWLEDGE

I have co-habited all my life. First with my twin brother, the greatest "intruder" of all time, who almost always jumped on the bed carelessly, as soon I laid it πŸ˜‚

Then when I thought marriage would be an escape route, I got into the hands of yet another beautiful "intruder" but I won't tell you what she does 😜

Knowing I have to live with intruders has given me a different perspective and so rather than nagging (as I used to do), I have simply embraced the path of peace.

Perhaps your case is different from mine, but the journey to peace is the same and it begins with knowing who you share your space with and acknowledging them for who they are.

And congratulations, if you have never had to co-habit πŸ˜‚

THE "ORGANIZE" SERIES 2: ORGANIZE FOR PRODUCTIVITY

Hello Folks,

It's a delight to be here again, trust you are doing great.

I commenced a new series for the month with an introductory post last weekend where I established the definition of the key word "Organize" and then classified the subject into 3 categories.

The focus today is on the first category; PRODUCTIVITY, and by that I mean that having an organised space has a direct impact on how well you do what you do in the space.

So in my post today, I hope to guide my audience on how to go about organizing their spaces in a way that results in improved productivity. To that effect, I will be sharing 3-step guideline you will find helpful.

Please come with me πŸ‘‡

#1: IDENTIFY

The starting point for driving productivity in a space is to first identify the purpose a space serves. This is so because there are different approaches to diferent purposes.

For instance, organising a beauty salon is not the same as organising a mechanic workshop, that's simply because both spaces serve different purposes hence the need for different approaches.

It is therefore important to have a clear idea of all the activities that will be going on in a space even when it's a multi-purpose space.

This brings us to the next step.

THE "ORGANIZE" SERIES: GOOD TO GO!

Happy New Month to my amazing audience, trust you are doing great.

It's a new month and the last for the 3rd quarter of the year where the theme has been; WAIT A MINUTE!. I hope the line up of the series has been helpful?

Now to September, I present The "Organize" Series where I bring my love for organizing spaces to fur in the bid to help my audience make the best of their spaces without necessarily making a project out of it.

First, let's start with definition, what does it mean to organize?

"To Organize means to arrange, plan, or structure things or people into a coherent, working order or a united whole".- Merriam-Webster dictionary

In this context, things and people would mean items occupying your space. For the sake of efficiency, I would classify this subject into 3 categories with a preview of each one highlighted in this post, then subsequently followed by a detailed post in the coming weeks.

I guess we are good to goπŸ‘‡

#1: ORGANIZE FOR PRODUCTIVITY

Did you know that

πŸ’ A clean desk frees up working memory, allowing you to focus deeply without your brain constantly processing background mess?

πŸ’ A tidy space creates a sense of calm and control, which reduces anxiety and prevents mental burnout?

Get to know more about how organizing your space can result in improved productivity in my next post.

Now, let's here a preview of what we have for the 4th quarter πŸ‘‡

: THE "PRECIOUS MOMENTS (P.M)" SERIES

Finally I have a series featuring my wife's name πŸ˜„πŸ’ƒπŸ•Ί

And I hope you are not thinking her name is moments? πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Just like I see my wife's birthday and our wedding anniversaries as precious moments, you also have some cherished moments at certain times, and they sometimes require certain ambience.

Allow me share some insights throughout October on how you can create the right ambience for precious moments in your space, so you can make them much more delightful and memorable.

Sounds interesting right?

: THE "IF ONLY YOU KNEW...." SERIES

I am for the school of thought that says "knowledge breeds trust".

The more right knowledge you have about a person, product, service or brand, the higher the level of trust you have for them.

So my posts in November will feature details from fact checks I have ran on products and services offered by Consult Kenny and other reputable brands you really need to know more about.

Please be on the lookout.

: THE "WHAT'S UP" SERIES

If you have followed Consult Kenny Posts long enough, you would realize December is that period I reflect on how far I have come with my deliverables for the year, right before I delve into my aspirations for the upcoming year.

I will be sticking to the same trend in my final series for 2024, except that this time in a "what's up?" mood, which implies I will be doing this in response to questions from you, my amiable audience 😊

So I indulge you to dig into my series in 2024, especially from the 1st-quarter and hold me accountable on any deliverable that is yet to be attained by Consult Kenny.

Here is a a good place to start from πŸ‘‡

THE "CATCH UP" SERIES 5: ANY OTHER BUSINESS!!!

Hi everyone, trust you are doing great.

It's the last Saturday in June and the last lap on The "Catch Up" series. I can't thank you enough for paying attention and following through πŸ™.

The conversations on this series have been with folks in the design and build Industry from whom I have gleaned enormous value and inspiration.

I mean Sam's decision to exit a toxic work environment, Roy choosing fatherhood over adventure, are a few examples of the depth of insights embedded in each of the conversations held, and I'm quite sure you would agree with me.

And of course shout out to Kunle, Nosa and Biola for the unquantifiable value they have added to this series as well.

Kindly click the link below to read through these conversations if you haven't done so πŸ‘‡

https://ln.run/CGEa6

Catching up with colleagues is great and I will do that over and over again, yet the catch up experience will be deemed incomplete without chipping some up-close and personal gists with friends and family.

And here is a sneak peek into my conversation with a friend that came to town, as well as my plans to connect with close family members at a family event coming up this weekend πŸ‘‡

#1: ISAAC CAME TO TOWN

Isaac and I have been friends for 11 years and we share a lot in common except for location, as Lagos and Abuja (both in Nigeria) are hundreds of miles apart.

A one on one catch up with Isaac was long overdue as we haven't met since he got married in 2021, so we were eager to grab the slightest opportunity to meet. Thankfully, that happened this week πŸ™‚

We had about 24 hours to ourselves talking about work, family, aspirations and other matters none of which will leak to the public space πŸ˜„, however I should say I was humbled and honored when Isaac revealed a truth I had never known, which is

HIS CHOICE OF CAREER WAS BORN FROM A SOCIAL IMPACT PROJECT WE BOTH EXECUTED BACK IN THE DAYS, SHORTLY AFTER WE MET IN 2013.

It's amazing to see a seed sown a decade ago, become a thriving career that will only get better.

Cheers to greatness BroπŸ₯‚

#2: A.B @ 50

So it's my brother's 50th birthday party today and that's a good place to connect with close family members like πŸ‘‡

- Madetomiwa, my favorite cousin, whom I haven't caught up with in a while until I received a call from him where he mentioned that his bundle of joy arrived sometime in June.

- Ayodeji, one family member I don't even know whether I should refer to as my brother or cousin 🀣. We crossed path at an airport while we were both in transit a few months ago.

There are several instances of folks who have been in my mind but out of sight, let's hope I'm able to do some catch ups so I have a line up of gist for you much later πŸ™‚

#3: TAKE HOME

Truth be told, the essence of The "Catch Up" series is not to flaunt my network or create impressions of any kind. Having said that what will then be the take home for anyone who has been following my posts in the past 4-5 weeks?

1. NURTURE: Relationships are golden and it doesn't matter whether it's work or family related, efforts have to be made to nurture them.

2. LISTEN: People need to bounce their thoughts and imaginations off you, provided they trust you enough not to judge or compare yourself with them.

3. SHARE: As we all grow and experience life it's important we seek opportunities to both share our perspectives and hear that of other people.

I can go on and on, but for the sake of time and space please permit me to halt this interesting series at this point.

Folks there is no better time to enjoy the highpoint of this event, I will be back next weekend with a preview of series for the 3rd-quarter of the year.

While you wait it will be cool to engage me viaπŸ‘‡

THE "LIFE OF A PROJECT MANAGER" SERIES 2: DUE DILIGENCE!!!

Happy weekend peeps

I guess the month is coming on well for you.

May is all about The "Life Of A Project Manager", a series where I reflect on my experience as a project manager, highlighting real life situations that will enlighten my audience about the intricacies of project management.

As mentioned in the introductory post, I will be approaching this series from multiple angles and the focus today is on GLITCHES.

With over a decade of experience managing projects, I have come across a couple of glitches and I realise that most (if not all) are as a result of failure to observe due diligence.

Majority of my works feature on construction sites and existing buildings, and as a project manager I am expected to liaise with engineers, facility managers and other stakeholders who are to provide necessary guidelines for project activities, however there are times when we get so familiar with the terrain, and as such step out of caution in some occasion.

Allow me share some of such instances in retrospect πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

#1: THE TRIGGER

Location: Landmark Towers, Lagos.

I remember it was a Monday morning on the 8th floor at the Landmark Towers, where I and my team had been scheduled for some preliminary work ahead of a facelift.

The facility team had done a great job with the necessary paperworks and orientation required for work permit.

βœ… No sound disruptions beyond 70 decibels

βœ… Safety kits must be worn at all times

βœ… Smoke and dust should not be raised without notifying the facility team

But the question is how much smoke or dust constitutes a threat?πŸ€”

βœ–οΈ Everything was good until the plumber on my team activated his soldering iron and the rest is history πŸ˜‚

Fire alarm system triggered, the occupants in the entire building (over a 100 people) evacuated and of course yours sincerely was fined and penalized 😭

N:B- my heart goes out to the Landmark team on the recent demolition of the beach front. Better days ahead guysπŸ™

#2: THE BURST

Location: H.E.P, Cairo

Just before you tag me defiant, Kenny is not at fault on this one πŸ˜‚

Unlike the trigger, the task in this case was to drill the floor for some hardware installation.

βœ… Beware of under ground pipes

βœ… Installation screws and pegs should not exceed 10cm-12cm into the floor

βœ… Contact MEP team to shut down water supply valves in the case of a burst

Meanwhile πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

βœ–οΈ The under ground pipes were installed at exactly 10cm into the floor πŸ™†β€β™‚οΈ

βœ–οΈ The MEP team reps were an hour away from the site 🀸

Just so you know, there was a burst and the installation ended up becoming a pool party on site 🀣

Please blame it on the MEP team.

#3: THE FALL

If you are expecting a story of how I or someone on my team fell off while working at height, you are absolutely wrong 🀣

I mean I could go on and on with glitchy scenarios, but I would rather use the last slide on this post as an avenue to reiterate the need to enforce safety measures on project sites.

Below are basic safety kits you will never go wrong with πŸ‘‡πŸΌ

βœ… Protective clothing
βœ… Safety Shoes
βœ…Helmet
βœ…Safety gloves
βœ…Safety Harness
βœ…Safety Glasses/Goggles

I hope you find this post helpful, be on the lookout for more insightful posts on this series.

You can always connect with me via
