Speculation about a possible “double impeachment” has stirred debate in Washington, D.C., with political commentators discussing whether impeachment proceedings could theoretically be launched against both the president and vice president at the same time.
The discussion centers on President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Some political observers have raised the idea of simultaneous impeachment efforts, although no formal proceedings have been introduced.
Under the United States Constitution, the United States House of Representatives has the authority to impeach federal officials, including both the president and vice president. Any removal from office would then require a trial and conviction in the United States Senate.
Legal scholars note that while the Constitution does not prohibit simultaneous impeachment proceedings, such a move would be extremely rare and politically significant. If both officials were removed from office, the presidency would pass to the next person in the line of succession, currently the Speaker of the House.
For now, the idea remains largely theoretical and part of broader political debate as lawmakers and analysts discuss potential scenarios ahead of upcoming elections.
