“WHO AM I?”
The Beginning of Spiritual Awakening in Odinani Igbo
INTRODUCTION
Before a person understands the ancestors, the spirits, the pantheons, or the mysteries of existence, that person must first understand themselves.
In Odinani Igbo, self-awareness is the first doorway to wisdom.
A person who does not know who they are can easily be controlled, confused, manipulated, or disconnected from purpose. This is why many people move through life without direction — because they have never truly sat down to ask the most important question:
“Who am I?”
This question is not merely about your name, your village, your age, or your occupation.
It is deeper.
It asks:
Why was I born?
What is my purpose?
What spiritual force guides me?
What is my connection to existence?
Why do I think the way I think?
Why do I feel different from others?
What path was I meant to walk?
In Odinani, self-discovery is sacred.
Because before a tree grows outward, it must first grow roots. #
