I was pleased to receive the Safety Audit Team led by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health, Safety and Environment, Mrs. Jayne Ufot, during an inspection visit to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare yesterday.

Yesterday, I received in my office members of the Female Councillors’ Forum from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, and I commend their resolve to mobilise grassroots support for the administration of Governor Umo Eno.

Their commitment is a worthy response to the Governor’s inclusive and gender-friendly leadership, which continues to create opportunities for women to contribute meaningfully to the development of Akwa Ibom State. I urged them to make effective use of these opportunities by remaining connected to their communities and addressing the needs of women and the vulnerable.

Drawing from my experience as a former councillor, I encouraged them to prioritise impactful representation and build lasting legacies that will sustain their relevance. I also charged them to mobilise women in their wards to register with the ARISE Cooperative Societies.

I appreciate the Forum for the visit and the souvenir presented, and I urge them to remain loyal and committed to the vision of Governor Umo Eno.

The visit reaffirms our shared commitment to advancing the cause of women and strengthening grassroots governance across the state.

CONDEMNATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST MS. RACHEL SAMUEL

The attention of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare has been drawn to the recent incident of violence and assault allegedly perpetrated by one Mr Hope Ekong against Ms Rachael Samuel, an indigene of Ikot Ekpat in Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, who is reportedly his tenant.

It is on the basis of this that I strongly condemn in its entirety such barbaric and inhuman act against fellow human.

The unfortunate incident, which occurred at the suspect’s residence on Hospital Road in Abak Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, is deeply disturbing and completely unacceptable. Such act of violence has no place in our society and must be firmly resisted.

As the Commissioner for Women Affairs, I strongly denounce this act of gender-based violence. This reprehensible act constitutes a clear violation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act, which criminalizes all forms of physical, emotional and psychological abuses. It also contravened the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, particularly Section 34, which guarantees the dignity of the human person and freedom from inhuman or degrading treatment.

This act is not only repugnant to human dignity but also a punishable offence under the laws of our land. No individual, regardless of status, has the right to inflict harm on another.
I reiterate my commitment that the Ministry will work closely with law enforcement agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure that the perpetrator is thoroughly investigated, prosecuted and held accountable in accordance with the law.

I also reaffirm the Ministry’s dedication to the protection and promotion of the rights of women and vulnerable persons across the State, in line with both national and international human rights obligations.

I commend the “Mother of the State,” the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady and Chairman of the State Gender-Based Violence Committee, Lady Helen Eno-Obareki, as well as the Secretary, Gender-Based Violence Committee, Barr. Emem Ette for their swift intervention in ensuring the arrest of the suspect and for their continued advocacy against all forms of violence against women.

Let this serve as a strong warning that the Akwa Ibom State Government maintains a zero-tolerance stance on gender-based violence and offenders will be met with the full weight of the law.

Together, we must continue to stand united in protecting the dignity, safety and rights of every woman.

Signed:

Hon. (Mrs) Inibehe Silas Etukudo
Hon. Commissioner

It was my honour, on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, to receive the executives of Mbong Iban, a distinguished women’s organization in Akwa Ibom State, at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry and Mbong Iban, while also enabling me to formally congratulate the newly appointed leadership of the organization. I commended the group for its enduring legacy of community service and its commitment to the empowerment and advancement of women across our state.

I urged members to sustain the discipline, integrity, and positive values that have distinguished Mbong Iban over the years, noting that these attributes remain critical to its continued relevance and to the broader cause of women’s development in Akwa Ibom State.

As a Ministry, we remain committed to fostering strategic partnerships that will uplift women, strengthen families, and advance the socio-economic development of Akwa Ibom State.

As part of our sustained commitment to advancing inclusive education and strengthening child welfare across Akwa Ibom State, I had the honour of representing the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Patience Umo Eno Golden Initiative For All (GIFA), Her Excellency, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, at the distribution of educational support materials to pupils of Government Primary School, Okoro-Inyong, in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area.

This impactful intervention, which benefited 163 pupils, underscores the unwavering resolve of the administration of His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, to eliminate barriers to basic education, particularly in our rural communities. Education remains a fundamental right, and this government will not tolerate any form of neglect that deprives our children of the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.

Through GIFA, we continue to reinforce the state’s free and compulsory education policy as a deliberate and strategic pathway to ensuring that every child, regardless of background or location, has access to quality learning and the tools necessary to excel.

I was particularly impressed by the level of discipline, enthusiasm, and academic readiness demonstrated by the pupils, a clear testament to the dedication and professionalism of the teaching staff. Their commitment to nurturing excellence, even in a rural setting, is commendable and deserving of recognition.

I was delighted to receive members of Afe Mkparawa Annang (AMA) in my office on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, during a courtesy visit that provided an opportunity for meaningful engagement on issues concerning leadership, unity, and the continued progress of our people.

This resolve clearly demonstrates the growing confidence of our people in the purposeful and people-oriented leadership being provided at both the national and state levels.
