Title: Adornment
Artist: Stephen Binos
Category: Visual Art

The intense, shyness and innocent stare of these young fulani girls in Demsa local government of Adamawa is a subtle reminder of the practice of child marriage which is still prevalent among the nomadic Fulani and kanuri tribe. Their colourful dresses (modjaare) and body adornments create an intricate pattern of beauty deliberately used to express modesty. Most of them have markings on their faces around the mouth and eyes that they were given since childbirth.

Stephen Binos hails from Adamawa state, North-eastern Nigeria. He started his artistic journey as a painter at the Ahmadu Bello University, home to the most popular art movement in Nigeria.

He obtained a bachelors in Fine Art there, and then proceeded to The University of Glamorgan, South Wales where he obtained a Masters in Art Practice. He has participated in various local and foreign group exhibitions.

Stephen mostly works with oil on canvas, but he has dabbled in other mediums and material approaches. His compositions narrate specific oral histories, but at other times, he welcomes multiple readings of his work.
Stephen Binos lives and works as an artist in Abuja, Nigeria.

Title: Shine Ya Eye
Artist: Sounfungoward Coulibaly (on Instagram)

This presents portrait of fictional African characters that do not deviate too much from the human form but still convey humans feelings and expressions.

Sounfungoward Coulibaly also known as Zatri, is a a visual artist based in Abidjan. He is passionate about art and design. Driven by the hope that he has not yet done his best work, he constantly seeks to translate in the best possible way, his perception of beauty and fantasy through the different styles and concepts of his creations.
