We all have that one place or time where everything feels
'right.'

For me, it's my studio during the first few hours of the day, usually between 8:00am and 9:30am.
This morning sun is an invitation to sit down, stay a while, and see what happens on the canvas/easel.

It's when the light hits the studio just right, it turns the room into a hazy, golden sanctuary.

It has somehow become my daily ritual: a quiet, addictive pull to the Art before the world gets loud. It's my favorite time to breathe and create. And that's because the air is still warm, the room is silent, and the light feels like a memory.

I find myself looking forward to these nostalgic mornings more than anything else.
Does anyone else have a morning ritual they can't live without?

Your sense of self is a landscape, but it is not a flat plane.

This piece presents one’s self not as a cohesive narrative, but as a dynamic structural puzzle.

The language we use to describe our experiences: “I feel broken,’ ‘I am putting the pieces back together’, are often spatial and architectural.

This is my attempt to bypass the polite surfaces of portraiture to confront the heavier, structural reality of individual identity by literally interpreting the face into stone-like blocks.

I’ll share more works from this series/collection in the coming days. Come along.

Ideas are not meant to live forever. Everything in life is dynamic, especially Art. Art is not allowed to remain stationary.

For instance, Museums are unknown to the Igbo people, They do not even contemplate the idea.

“This is how this Painting/sculture should he made, and once it’s made it should be venerated. NO. These things are meant to be created again and again, and every generation has a chance to execute its own model of Art.

So, there is no undue regard for what the previous generation did, because if you do that “too much” it means that there is no need for me to do anything, because it’s already been done.

Inspired by the writings of Chinua Achebe on the concept of Mbari: a philosophy that prioritizes the act of creation over the object created..

I can’t stop thinking about it. This perspective makes the “blank canvas” feel less scary and more like a responsibility. It is completely mind boggling. I feel like my brain is about to explode 😩

Think carefully before you start a new piece of Art or Music. Art can be/is a path of deception

This is not a moral failure, it’s a tool. And like any tool, it can build shelter or cause damage.

Think carefully before you start: what you create today will shape how people feel and what they believe tomorrow.

Today’s the day! (8th of March)
Join me for a special farewell guided tour of ‘iLA’ between the hours of 3 and 6pm.

Let’s talk about the exploration of the beauty and significance of facial and body markings, and discover the stories behind these artworks and it’s impact on “self”

We’ll discuss the exhibition’s themes, symbolism, and it’s cultural significance.

ILÀ was formulated with one major question in mind: “How does the intersection of tradition and modernity impacts one’s sense of self?”

Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the conversation!

I’ll appreciate you taking the time to come share your thoughts and insights as we dissect the evolving meaning of these artworks together.

Let’s break down barriers and build bridges of understanding one more time.

March 8, 2025 - (3-6pm)

The journey of pursuing your passion can lead to significant growth, not just to self, but also growth of those who encounter the results of your relentless passion.

This human experience ultimately leads to growth, discovery, and improvement, both at an individual level and the community at large.

My own journey with iLA began three years ago, marked by countless iterations and refinements.

Witnessing your connections with each piece has filled me with the courage to continue pushing boundaries. iLA is more than art – it’s an extension of the human experience.

I envision these artworks as Historical Documents, transcending mere decoration to capture the essence of our shared humanity. They hold stories, emotions, and experiences that deserve to be felt and understood.

“What ignites your passion? What makes your heart sing?
iLA solo exhibition by Fatola remains on view till March 8, 2025
