In a peaceful village called Umudara, there lived a loving couple named Chinedu and Adaeze. They were blessed with two beautiful children — a handsome little boy named Somto and a lovely girl named Amara. The children were known across the village for their wisdom, kindness, and obedience.
Their parents loved them deeply and always warned them about the dangers in the world. One evening, after hearing stories of missing children in nearby communities, Chinedu gathered his children and said:
“From today, our family secret code is Grace 45 45. If anybody ever comes to your school and says we sent them to pick you up, never follow that person unless they can say the code correctly.”
The children nodded carefully and memorized the code.
Weeks later, a wicked politician named Chief Okonkwo became desperate to win an upcoming election. He belonged to a secret occultic group that demanded the sacrifice of two innocent children before they could guarantee him victory. Blinded by greed and power, the politician sent one of his bodyguards to search for two lovely children.
The bodyguard drove to a nearby school during closing hours. There, he spotted Somto and Amara standing at the school gate waiting for their parents.
With a fake smile, he walked toward them.
“Your parents sent me to pick you up,” he said.
But little Amara quickly remembered her father’s warning.
“What is our family secret code?” she asked boldly.
The bodyguard became confused.
“I… I don’t know any code,” he stammered.
Immediately, Somto shouted:
“Kidnapper! Kidnapper!”
Amara joined him, screaming loudly for help.
Teachers, pupils, security officers, and even nearby traders rushed to the scene. The bodyguard tried to escape, but the school security men caught him and handed him over to the police.
At the police station, the officers demanded to know who sent him. At first, he refused to speak. But after hours of intense interrogation, fear overwhelmed him.
Finally, he confessed:
“Chief Okonkwo sent me! He wanted the children for ritual sacrifice to win the election!”
The confession shocked the entire community.
That same night, police officers stormed the politician’s mansion and arrested him before the whole village. Hidden ritual items were discovered in his house, and many dark secrets were exposed.
The villagers praised Somto and Amara for remembering their family code and speaking up quickly. From that day onward, parents across the land began teaching their children secret safety codes to protect them from danger.
And the elders always ended the story with this proverb:
“A wise child who remembers instruction will escape the trap prepared by the wicked.”
