🧪 BASIC COMPONENTS OF PAINT

Every quality paint is made up of carefully selected components. Each component performs a specific function and contributes to the final quality of the paint.

🔹 1. BINDER (RESIN)

The binder is the film-forming component of paint. It holds the pigment and other particles together and helps the dried paint adhere firmly to the surface.

🔹 2. PIGMENTS

Pigments are finely divided materials that give paint its colour and opacity (hiding power).

🔹 3. EXTENDERS / FILLERS

Extenders help improve the body, texture and certain performance properties of paint. They can also contribute to coverage and help control production cost.

🔹 4. SOLVENT OR WATER

This is the liquid medium that helps disperse the paint components and controls the viscosity (thickness) of the paint for easier application.

🔹 5. ADDITIVES

Additives are chemicals added in small quantities to improve specific properties of paint, such as preservation, foam control, viscosity, drying and stability.

💡 KEY LESSON:
The quality of paint depends not only on the ingredients used but also on the correct formulation and proper balance of each component.

TYPES OF PAINT AND THEIR USES

Paint comes in different types, and each one is designed for a specific purpose and surface.

🔹 Emulsion Paint – Commonly used for interior and exterior walls. It provides a smooth and attractive finish.

🔹 Gloss Paint – Used on wood and metal surfaces such as doors, windows and gates. It gives a shiny and durable finish.

🔹 Matte Paint – Gives walls a smooth, non-shiny finish and is suitable for interior decoration.

🔹 Satin Paint – Provides a soft, slightly shiny finish and is commonly used on walls and other surfaces.

🔹 Textured Paint – Used to create decorative patterns and textures on walls.

🔹 Undercoat/Paint Primer – Applied before the final paint to improve adhesion and prepare the surface.
