Why you shouldn’t marry a girl who cannot cook – Pastor Adeboye

Cleric Enoch Adeboye has stirred discussion after sharing his views on qualities he believes are important in a potential spouse.

Speaking during a sermon, he advised men to consider practical attributes such as cooking skills and hospitality when choosing a partner, suggesting that these traits play a significant role in building a stable home.

He also emphasized the importance of intelligence and character, referencing biblical guidance in his remarks.

According to him, if a lady do not possess these attributes, the man shouldn’t bother marrying, or else he is headed for trouble

Don’t marry a girl who cannot cook. We’re talking of excellent counsel. Only me can tell you these things. If she can’t cook, even if a prophet says this is your wife. Say thank you, keep her. Because if she can’t cook, if she can’t be hospitable, you’re heading for trouble. The Bible made it clear that your wife must be someone who is intelligent and hospitable…”

His statement has generated mixed reactions online, with some agreeing with his perspective on traditional roles in marriage, while others argue for a more modern and flexible approach to partnerships.

I didn’t want to marry artiste, pastor, politician’ – Banky W’s wife, Adesua

Adesua Etomi-Wellington, wife of Nigerian singer, politician and clergyman, Banky W, has reflected on her marriage, revealing that their love is still waxing stronger nearly a decade into their union

Speaking in a recent interview hosted by Teju Babyface along with her husband, Mrs Wellington explained that initially Banky W wasn’t her ideal man due to his career paths but she settled for him because of divine instruction.

“Before I met my husband, I told God I didn’t want to marry a musician, a pastor or a politician, but God gave me all three,” she said.

On his part, Banky W revealed that Adesua confirmed he was her husband after several rejections.

He explained that he had known that she was his wife for a year and a half but was waiting for her to be on the same page.

He said, “Adesua called me on the phone one day and said, Banky, you know you’re my husband right?”

The singer said Adesua’s confirmation further strengthened his own conviction and they got married.

The couple wedded in 2017. Their marriage has produced two children.

Carter Efe defeats Portable in a boxing match.

Street artiste and ZaZoo crooner, Habeeb ‘Portable’ Badmus, suffered his first defeat in celebrity boxing on Friday night as social media comedian, Carter Efe, outclassed him across three rounds to win by unanimous decision at the Chaos in the Ring 4 event held at the Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos.

All three judges scored the bout 27-30 in favour of Efe, stripping Portable of his status as celebrity boxing king.

Portable, who had beaten Charles Okocha and Speed Darlington in previous bouts to claim two belts, had entered the ring with characteristic swagger, promising to add a third title at Efe’s expense.

“I will use you to collect my third belt. Charles Okocha was bigger than you, Speed Darlington was bigger than you, and I beat them. I will beat you now,” the street artiste had warned ahead of the fight.

Efe, however, was unmoved, responding, “One punch and you fall.”

The skit maker backed up his words in the ring. In the opening round, Portable came out aggressively, throwing wild, erratic punches in his trademark style, but the taller Efe absorbed the pressure and countered with crisp uppercuts and body punches that troubled the singer’s smaller frame.

Portable’s approach did not change in the second round as he continued to throw wide shots and clinch repeatedly, but Efe grew sharper, landing more solid combinations. The third round followed a similar pattern, with Efe consistently finding his mark before the final bell.

The Labour Party, LP, has elected Nenadi Usman as its National Chairman at the party’s national convention held on Tuesday in Umuahia, Abia State.

With her emergence, Usman makes history as the first woman to be elected National Chairman of a political party in Nigeria.

It would be recalled that on Wednesday, 4th September 2024, Usman was appointed to lead the National Caretaker Committee of the party at a NEC meeting in Umuahia, following a leadership vacuum created by the expiration of the tenure of the former National Working Committee.

She successfully steered the party through a turbulent period marked by leadership disputes, which were ultimately resolved in her favour by the appellate court.

A former Minister of Finance and senator, Usman brings a wealth of experience and proven capacity to her new role.

As the 2027 general elections approach, she bears the immediate responsibility of positioning the party for electoral success.

Following its strong showing in the 2023 general elections, the Labour Party has firmly established itself as a formidable political platform, a foundation Usman is poised to consolidate upon.

Prior to the convention, Usman had been recognised as the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the Party by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, following a Federal High Court judgement delivered on 21st January 2026 affirming her leadership.

In his remarks, Governor Otti charged the newly elected National Working Committee to provide purposeful leadership and strengthen the party’s structures nationwide.

Others elected into the National Working Committee of the party include Iheanacho Obioma, National Secretary; Mrs Nike Oriola, Deputy National Chairman, Ken Eluma Asogwa, National Publicity Secretary; Mrs Oluchi Oparah, National Organising Secretary; Comrade Anslem Eragbe, National Financial Secretary; Hilda Dokubo, National Women Leader.
