LOVE AND BETRAYAL

Episode 21: Secrets in the Blood

Amina stood by the window, staring at the city skyline. The lights of Lagos blinked like fireflies, but tonight, they brought her no comfort. Tunde’s words echoed in her mind: _“Your father’s debts are now yours.”_

She had always believed her father was just a simple businessman, tough but honest. But now, piece by piece, the truth was unraveling like thread from an old wrapper. The more she pulled, the messier it became.

Kunle stepped into the room, holding two mugs of steaming tea. He handed her one and leaned against the wall, watching her carefully.

“You haven’t said much since he left,” he said softly.

Amina took the tea, but didn’t drink. “Because there’s too much to say. Kunle, I don’t even know who I am anymore. Every time I think I’ve figured it out, someone shows up with another secret from my father’s past.”

Kunle sighed. “Then maybe it’s time we dig it all up ourselves. Go to the source before they twist everything to suit their agenda.”

Amina turned to him. “You think we can find the truth before they force me into something I can’t come back from?”

Kunle met her gaze. “We won’t know until we try.”

---

Later That Day…

Amina and Kunle drove deep into the outskirts of Lagos, to a place she hadn’t visited in over ten years—her father's old compound in Epe. The house was dusty, the gate nearly falling off its hinges, but inside, everything was untouched. It was like time had frozen.

In her father's study, they found a locked drawer. Kunle forced it open, and inside was a single leather-bound journal.

Amina flipped through it—pages filled with messy handwriting, names, transactions, and diary-like entries. One name kept reappearing: **Chief Olatunji**.

She frowned. “Who is Chief Olatunji? He’s mentioned more than anyone else.”

Kunle's eyes widened. “That’s the man your father once worked for—before he ‘made it big’ and started his own company. People used to say your dad betrayed him.”

Amina’s heart pounded. “And if that betrayal is tied to this cartel…”

Kunle nodded. “Then this Chief might have been the one pulling the strings all along.”

Suddenly, a loud noise echoed from the back of the compound—like a window breaking.

Kunle grabbed his small pistol. “Stay here.”

Amina followed him anyway. They moved quietly, staying close to the shadows, until they spotted a figure slipping out the back gate.

“Hey!” Kunle shouted, chasing after them. But the person disappeared into the darkness, leaving only a small folder behind.

Inside were photos. Old, grainy, but clear enough—her father shaking hands with Chief Olatunji… and Tunde standing in the background, younger but unmistakably him.

Amina felt her knees weaken. “They were all in this together from the beginning.”

Kunle picked up another paper from the folder. “Look at this.” It was a contract. A deal signed years ago—promising Amina’s future in exchange for her father’s protection.

Her name was on the contract.

She gasped. “They’ve been planning this since I was a child?”

Kunle nodded grimly. “Amina, your life was never yours to begin with. You were born into this.”

---

That Night…

Back at their apartment, Amina sat quietly, staring at the photo of her father and Chief Olatunji. Anger bubbled inside her—not just at them, but at herself for being so blind.

“I’m going to meet this Chief,” she said firmly. “No more running. No more hiding. If I’m part of this, I deserve answers from the people who planned my life before I could live it.”

Kunle looked hesitant but nodded. “Then I’m going with you.”

Amina looked at him, her voice low. “Thank you, Kunle. But from here on, I think things are going to get a lot more dangerous.”

He offered her a small, tired smile. “Good. I don’t like things when they’re too quiet anyway.”

As they both stared out the window into the Lagos night, one thing was certain—the past was no longer behind them. It was very much alive… and it was coming for them.

---

Cliffhanger:
At the end of the journal, one final line sent chills through Amina’s spine:
_“If anything happens to me, don’t trust Kunle.”

Amina sat in the dimly lit apartment, her fingers drumming nervously on the edge of the table.

The papers that had once felt like a weight in her hands now seemed insignificant compared to the choices ahead.

The documents were only the beginning of her father’s secrets—secrets that were pulling her into a world of violence, deceit, and power struggles she had never imagined.

Kunle sat across from her, his eyes scanning her face, trying to gauge her thoughts. He knew Amina was struggling, but he also knew there was no turning back. The cartel’s grip on her was tightening with each passing moment.

“Amina,” Kunle said softly, breaking the silence, “you’ve got to understand—there’s no safe place for you anymore. You can’t hide from this. If you try to run, they’ll come after you. And they’ll come for everyone you love.”

Amina’s eyes hardened. “I don’t care about hiding anymore. I care about finding out the truth. I have to know why my father did this. Why he made these choices. I need to know who I can trust.”

Kunle nodded, his jaw set in determination. “And I’ll be by your side until the end. But remember, trust isn’t something you hand out easily in this world. Everyone has an agenda.”

Just then, the sharp knock on the door broke their conversation. Amina’s heart skipped a beat. Who could it be? The man from the cartel? Or someone more dangerous?

Kunle stood up, his hand hovering near his waist where he kept his weapon. “Stay behind me,” he whispered, his voice tense. Amina nodded, a chill running through her as she stood, pressing herself against the wall.

Kunle cautiously approached the door and peered through the peephole. His face darkened.

“It’s him,” he said, his voice barely a whisper. “Tunde.”

Amina’s stomach tightened. What did he want now? What more could they possibly demand?

Kunle opened the door slowly, his body blocking Amina from view. Tunde stood on the other side, a sly smirk playing on his lips. He looked as though he had all the time in the world, as if this was some sort of twisted game to him.

“I hope I’m not interrupting anything,” Tunde said, his tone smooth but dangerous. “But we need to talk. It’s about your father.”

Amina’s heart raced. This was it. The moment she had been waiting for—the moment that would reveal all the lies, the hidden truths, and the dark world her father had been a part of.

Kunle stepped aside, allowing Tunde to enter. Amina could feel the tension between them, thick enough to cut with a knife. She tried to steady her breathing as she sat back down, trying to keep her composure in front of this man who had been one of her father’s closest associates.

Tunde wasted no time. “You’re going to meet with the others,” he said, dropping a small folder onto the table. Amina stared at it, her pulse quickening. Inside, she knew, would be the next piece of the puzzle. “Your father’s debts are too large to ignore. And now, they are yours.”

Amina opened the folder with shaking hands. Her eyes scanned the documents inside—more records of illegal transactions, names she didn’t recognize, and a map of locations that her father had frequented. It was all starting to make sense now. Her father had owed far more than money. He had been involved in a far-reaching operation, one that spanned continents.

“Why are you telling me all this?” Amina asked, her voice low. “Why not just take me out like you’ve taken out everyone else who’s in your way?”

Tunde laughed, a dark, cold laugh that sent a shiver down her spine. “Because you’re special, Amina. You’re your father’s legacy. And there are some who want to use that. The only question is—will you let them?”

Kunle stepped forward, his expression hardening. “Enough games, Tunde. What do you want from her?”

Tunde held up his hands, feigning innocence. “All in good time, Kunle. All in good time. You see, Amina here has a role to play. She always has. Now, the real question is—will she play it? The deal her father made was for power, influence, and wealth. And now it’s her turn to finish what he started.”

Amina felt the weight of his words, his gaze piercing into her as if he were measuring her worth. It was a moment that would define everything. Did she have what it took to survive in this ruthless world? Or would she break under the pressure?

The decision wasn’t hers alone. The world her father had kept from her was now hers to inherit, whether she liked it or not.

“Tell me what I need to do,” Amina said, her voice steady, but her heart pounding in her chest. “I’ll play the game, but on my terms.”

Tunde’s smile widened, pleased with her response. “We’ll see, Amina. We’ll see.”

Amina’s world was getting smaller by the minute. The more she learned, the more she understood that there was no turning back. She had entered a game where only the strongest survived.

But could she trust herself to play it? let's see...

Amina couldn’t shake the feeling that the walls were closing in on her. Each step she took felt like it echoed in the vast, uncharted silence that surrounded her.

The documents in her hands were heavy—more than just paper. They were the weight of her father’s sins, the burden of secrets he had never shared.

Secrets that now bound her to a world she never asked for.

Kunle walked beside her, his pace steady, but his eyes betraying the concern he tried to hide. He knew that once Amina stepped into this world, there would be no turning back. It was a game of survival, and only those willing to play it would make it out alive.

The city of Lagos sprawled around them, its lights flickering like distant stars, but Amina saw none of its beauty tonight.

Her mind was consumed by the choices she had to make. The deeper she went into this world, the harder it would be to remember who she used to be—the innocent girl who once dreamed of a normal life.

“You’re quiet,” Kunle said after a long silence, his voice breaking through her thoughts. “I know this is a lot to take in, but you’re not alone in this.”

Amina looked up at him, her face tired but determined. “I know you’re here for me, Kunle. But this isn’t just about me anymore. This is about my father, the things he did… and the things I have to do now.”

Kunle stopped walking and turned to face her, his expression serious. “Amina, this isn’t your burden to carry alone. It’s not about being perfect or making the right choices every time. It’s about surviving. And surviving means making hard decisions.”

Amina nodded, but a lump formed in her throat. She had always prided herself on being strong.

But how could she stand strong when everything she had ever known was a lie? Her father, the man who had raised her, had made decisions that had dragged them both into a world of crime. And now, she was expected to pick up the pieces.

Kunle placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “You’re stronger than you think. We’ll figure this out together.”

Just then, a black SUV pulled up beside them, its tinted windows reflecting the neon lights of the street.

The door opened, and a tall, imposing figure stepped out. Amina recognized him immediately—the man who had been part of her father’s world. He was one of the cartel’s most trusted enforcers.

His name was Tunde, and his reputation was enough to send chills down anyone’s spine.

“Tunde,” Amina said, her voice tight as she tried to mask the unease that rushed through her.

Tunde’s cold gaze met hers. “You’ve got what you need?” he asked, his voice low and steady, like the rumble of a distant storm.

Amina nodded, handing him the manila envelope. “Everything you need is in there.”

Tunde took the envelope without a word, flipping it open as he scanned the contents. For a moment, the only sound was the rustle of paper and the hum of the city around them. Amina’s heart pounded in her chest as she waited for his reaction.

“This is just the beginning, Amina,” Tunde finally said, his voice dark and devoid of emotion. “You’ve taken the first step. But it’s not enough. They want more. Your father’s ties to the cartel go deeper than you realize. The deal he made wasn’t just for money or power. It was for something much bigger. And now, it’s your turn to honor that deal.”

Amina swallowed hard, her throat dry. “What do you mean? What do you want from me?”

Tunde’s lips curled into a small, sinister smile. “You’ll know soon enough. But right now, we need to take action. There’s no room for hesitation. The people you’re dealing with aren’t the kind to wait around.”

Kunle stepped forward, his jaw set. “What’s next?”

Tunde glanced at him, his eyes narrowing slightly. “You, Kunle, need to stay out of this. You’ve done enough. This is Amina’s fight now. She’s the key.”

Amina’s chest tightened. She didn’t want this fight. She didn’t want to be the key to anything. She wanted to leave it all behind and go back to a life of peace and simplicity. But the reality of the situation was clear—she couldn’t escape. Not now. Not when the cartel’s eyes were on her.

“We’ll do what we have to do,” Amina said, her voice steady despite the fear that coiled in her stomach. “But I won’t be controlled by anyone. Not even by them.”

Tunde’s smile widened slightly, but it wasn’t a reassuring smile. It was a promise of things to come. “We’ll see, Amina. We’ll see how long you can hold onto that defiance. In this world, everyone has a price.”

With that, Tunde got back into the SUV, the door slamming shut behind him. The engine roared to life, and the vehicle sped off into the night, leaving Amina and Kunle standing in the silence of the street.

Kunle turned to Amina, his face filled with concern. “What now?”

Amina didn’t answer immediately. She watched the SUV disappear into the distance, the weight of the decision pressing down on her. Her life was no longer her own, and she had just taken the first step down a path that could lead to her destruction—or to something far darker.

“We move forward,” she said finally, her voice determined but hollow. “We have no choice.”

𝗘𝗽𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝟭𝟴: 𝗔 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲

Amina stood in the shadowed alleyway, her heart racing as she glanced over her shoulder.

The chill of the night air bit at her skin, but it wasn’t the cold that made her shiver. It was the knowledge that she was about to step into a world she never thought she would have to face—one that her father had kept hidden, one that would change everything.

Kunle was beside her, his posture tense, his eyes scanning their surroundings as he guided her through the narrow passage. They had made it to the meeting point, a place where they would be handed the tools to navigate the dangerous world her father had been involved in.

“You alright?” Kunle asked, his voice soft but filled with concern.

Amina didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she took a deep breath, her gaze focused ahead. “I’m fine,” she replied, though the words didn’t quite match the turmoil inside her. She wasn’t fine. She hadn’t been fine for a long time. But she couldn’t afford to show weakness now.

They reached the door of a nondescript building, and Kunle knocked twice, then paused.

A moment later, the door creaked open, revealing a man with a cold, calculating stare. He wasn’t the same person they had met earlier.

This man was a part of the darker underworld, and Amina could feel it in the way he studied her, sizing her up as if she were a mere pawn in a game she didn’t even understand.

“Kunle,” the man said, his voice gravelly. “You brought her. I see she’s ready for the game.”

Amina stiffened at the words. The game. It felt surreal. She never imagined her life would be defined by such a word. Her father’s legacy was a weight she had no choice but to carry, and now, it was pulling her into the shadows.

Kunle nodded, stepping forward. “She’s ready. What’s the next move?”

The man smirked, clearly amused. “The next move? You should’ve been here a week ago. Time is money, Kunle. But, you know what they say... it’s better late than never.”

Amina felt a rush of frustration but held it in check. She couldn’t afford to show any vulnerability. Not now.

“Let’s just get it over with,” she said firmly, her voice steady despite the storm inside her.

The man’s expression shifted, and he stepped aside, gesturing for them to enter the building. “Follow me,” he said, leading them down a dark hallway into a small, dimly lit room. The room smelled faintly of dust and old leather. On the table in the center were several documents, all of them sealed in manila envelopes.

Amina’s eyes immediately went to the stack of papers. Her heart raced as the reality of what was happening began to sink in. These were the documents that held the key to her father’s past, the proof she needed to confront the people who had manipulated her family.

Kunle moved toward the table and picked up one of the envelopes. He handed it to Amina. “These are the answers you’ve been looking for.”

Amina took the envelope, her hands shaking slightly as she tore it open. Inside were documents that seemed to hold more weight than anything she’d ever seen. She skimmed through them, her eyes widening as she uncovered the depths of her father’s involvement in the criminal world.

“I didn’t know,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “He was part of this... I never knew.”

Kunle placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder, but his face was grim. “None of us did, Amina. Your father was a master of keeping his secrets. But now, it’s time for you to make your own decisions. What happens next is up to you.”

Amina’s mind raced. She had never been prepared for this. Her father had kept her safe from this world, but now she was thrust into it. She had to decide how far she was willing to go to protect herself and those she loved.

“I can’t do this,” she said, suddenly overwhelmed. “I don’t want to be part of this world. I don’t want to be a pawn in someone’s game.”

Kunle’s grip tightened on her shoulder, his voice low but insistent. “You don’t have a choice, Amina. Not anymore. The people after you—they won’t stop. They want everything your father had, and they’ll come for you next. You have to protect yourself, and the only way to do that is to play the game.”

The man from earlier, who had been standing in the corner, now stepped forward. His eyes were cold as he regarded Amina. “Your father made his choices. Now, it’s your turn. You can either fight back or be destroyed. But the clock is ticking.”

Amina stood in silence for a moment, her eyes on the documents in her hands. She didn’t want this life. She didn’t want to be dragged further into the mess her father had created. But Kunle was right. There was no turning back now. The people after her were ruthless. They wouldn’t care about her wishes.

“I’ll do what I have to,” she said quietly, her voice firm. “But I won’t become like them.”

The man smirked, clearly amused by her defiance. “We’ll see about that.”

Kunle led her out of the room, his face unreadable. As they walked back into the alley, Amina’s mind was racing. She wasn’t sure what her next step would be, but she knew one thing: her life was no longer her own. She was tangled in a web of lies and secrets, and the only way to survive was to keep moving forward, even if it meant losing part of herself in the process.

The man’s cold smile lingered in the dimly lit room, and for a moment, the silence seemed suffocating.

Amina’s heartbeat pounded in her ears as she sat there, facing the unknown. Kunle’s presence beside her offered little comfort.

This wasn’t the world she knew—the world of simple decisions and clear boundaries. No, this was a different world entirely. A world where every move could be a trap.

The man leaned forward, his fingers tapping the table rhythmically. “You want answers, Amina?” His voice was smooth, like the sound of ice scraping against glass. “The truth is something you might not be able to handle, but it’s the only way forward.”

Amina’s throat tightened. “What truth?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She wasn’t sure she was ready to hear what he was about to say, but she couldn’t back out now. The weight of everything that had happened, and everything that had been hidden from her, was too much. She needed to know.

Kunle’s jaw clenched as he watched the man carefully. “Just tell her,” he said quietly, though his eyes held a sharp warning. “She has to know.”

The man let out a small chuckle, as though Kunle’s warning meant little to him. He looked at Amina with a knowing glance before speaking again. “Your father was a powerful man, Amina. But he wasn’t just a businessman. He was more than that. He was a key player in a much larger game. You’ve heard of the cartel operating in Nigeria, right?”

Amina felt a chill run down her spine. “The cartel? What does that have to do with my father?”

“Everything,” the man replied, his voice growing darker. “Your father didn’t just owe money to anyone. He owed a debt to people who control everything.

The kind of people whose reach goes beyond even Nigeria. They control governments, businesses, everything. Your father was part of a deal, a secret alliance.

He made a pact with them to keep his family safe, but the price was always going to be high.”

Amina’s mind reeled as she processed the information. Her father, a man who had always told her to trust no one, had been entangled in a world of crime and corruption. She had spent her entire life thinking he was just a businessman, a man who worked hard to provide for his family. How could she have been so blind?

“Why didn’t you tell me this before?” she asked, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and disbelief. “Why did you let me live in ignorance?”

The man’s eyes softened, but only for a moment. “Because I wanted to protect you, Amina. The truth, as painful as it is, will only make things worse. They know about you, and they’ve been hunting you ever since your father’s death.

If you didn’t know, they might have left you alone. But now that you’re involved, there’s no turning back.”

Kunle’s expression was grim, but he remained silent. He wasn’t the one who had to deal with the truth—Amina was.

“What do you want from me?” Amina asked, her voice steady now, though the shock still lingered in her chest. “Why are you telling me this?”

The man leaned back in his chair, his face unreadable. “I’m not here to be your friend, Amina. I’m here because your survival depends on what I’m about to offer you. You need to make a choice.”

“Choice?” Amina echoed. She felt a surge of anger rising within her, frustration at the situation she found herself in. “What kind of choice is this? My life’s already been turned upside down. What more do you want from me?”

The man’s gaze hardened. “You can either take the offer I’m giving you, or you can walk away. But if you walk away, they’ll find you. And when they do, it won’t just be you they hurt.”

Amina blinked, trying to steady her emotions. She had already lost so much—her innocence, her sense of safety, and now the trust in her own family. But the thought of more loss, of more bloodshed, made her blood run cold. She looked at Kunle, who met her gaze with a silent, pleading look. He knew she was at a crossroads. This was the moment where everything would change.

“What is the offer?” Amina finally asked, her voice small but resolute. She needed to know. She needed to make a decision.

The man’s lips curled into a smile, though it was far from reassuring. “I can give you the information you need. I can give you the leverage to turn the tables, to take control of your fate. But it comes at a price. You’ll have to play the game, Amina. You’ll have to enter the world your father left behind.”

Amina’s eyes widened. “You want me to become part of it? You want me to join the cartel?”

The man’s smile faded. “Not join. But you will have to get your hands dirty. You’ll have to make some hard choices. The people after you—they won’t stop unless you give them what they want. You’re the key now, Amina. Your father’s legacy is yours to carry, whether you like it or not.”

Kunle’s voice cut through the tension in the room. “I know it’s a lot to ask, Amina. But if you don’t do this, there’s no way out. They’ll come for you, and they won’t leave you alone until they have what they need.”

Amina’s heart was pounding in her chest. This wasn’t the life she had planned for herself. She hadn’t signed up for this world of betrayal, manipulation, and danger. She had only wanted a normal life. But now, the choices weren’t hers to make alone.

“I’ll do it,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’ll take your offer. But I want to know exactly what I’m getting into.”

The man’s smile returned, this time colder than before. “You’ll know soon enough, Amina. But remember, once you enter this world, there’s no going back. You’ll have to decide how far you’re willing to go to survive.”

Amina took a deep breath. The weight of her decision pressed down on her, and though she had no idea what would happen next, she knew one thing for sure: her life was no longer hers to control. She was in this fight, whether she liked it or not.

𝐄𝐩𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝟏𝟔: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐔𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝

The car sped through the empty streets of Ibadan, and with each passing second, Amina’s heart beat faster. Her mind was in turmoil, replaying Kunle’s words over and over again: “Your family is connected to something dangerous. Your father owed a debt to the wrong people.”

Her father, the man she had always admired and looked up to, had been hiding secrets. Secrets that had now threatened her life.

“Kunle,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “What do you mean? What kind of debt? What are you talking about?”

Kunle didn’t immediately respond. His knuckles were white against the steering wheel as he navigated the dark roads, his face tense and unreadable.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he spoke, his voice low but firm.

“Your father was involved in a criminal syndicate. One that dealt in things much darker than you could ever imagine.

Weapons, money laundering, trafficking. He made deals with people who operate in the shadows, people who don’t care about family, people who will stop at nothing to get what they want.” Kunle paused, his eyes briefly flickering to Amina.

“When he died, they came after you. They think you know something, or maybe they think you have something they need.”

Amina felt a lump form in her throat. She couldn’t breathe, the weight of Kunle’s words sinking in like a heavy stone pressing against her chest. She had always thought her father was a man of honor, a hardworking man who had provided for his family. How could he have been involved in something like that?

“But why didn’t you tell me this before?” she asked, her voice sharp now. “Why keep me in the dark?”

Kunle’s jaw clenched. “I didn’t want you to be dragged into this mess, Amina. You deserved to live your life in peace. But I didn’t have a choice. I’m sorry I lied, but you have to understand. I didn’t want you to become a target.”

Amina turned her gaze out the window, the passing lights reflecting in her eyes. “So, what now? What do we do? You’re telling me all this, but how does this help us? We’re already in this mess, Kunle. You dragged me back into a life I tried to leave behind. And now, it’s too late. If what you’re saying is true, they’ll come for us.”

Kunle exhaled slowly, his voice heavy with regret. “There’s one way out. But it’s dangerous, Amina. You have to be ready for what’s coming.”

Amina turned back to him, her face a mixture of anger and confusion. “What do you mean ‘a way out’? I don’t want to be part of this world anymore, Kunle. I want to go back to my life, to forget about all of this.”

“You can’t,” he said softly, almost apologetically. “Not unless we confront them. The people after you—they won’t stop until they get what they want. They’ve been watching you for months, Amina. They know everything about you. Where you’ve been. Who you’ve talked to. Everything. If we don’t act now, it’s only a matter of time before they come for you—and everyone you care about.”

The silence that followed felt heavy, as if the weight of the truth had settled between them, making it impossible to ignore. Amina sat back, closing her eyes for a moment to collect her thoughts. She had never imagined her life would take such a turn. She had never expected to be pulled back into a world filled with lies, deception, and fear. But now, it seemed like there was no escape.

“Okay,” she finally said, her voice calm but resolute. “What do we need to do?”

Kunle glanced at her, his face hardening with determination. “We need to meet with someone who can help us. Someone who’s tied to the same people your father was involved with, but who has their own interests. I know someone who can get us the information we need to take them down. But it’s not going to be easy.”

Amina raised an eyebrow. “And you trust this person?”

Kunle didn’t answer immediately. He kept his eyes on the road, his expression unreadable. After a long pause, he spoke again.

“No,” he said quietly. “But we don’t have a choice. We’re running out of time.”

The tension in the car was palpable as Kunle drove through the darkened streets, the silence almost suffocating. Amina felt the weight of his words, and the gravity of their situation settled into her bones. There was no turning back now.

As the car pulled into a deserted part of the city, Amina’s heart began to race again. The area was poorly lit, the buildings in disrepair, the streets empty. She couldn’t help but wonder where they were going, and if they were truly safe.

Kunle stopped the car in front of a small, nondescript building tucked away between two larger structures. The building looked abandoned, but there was something about it that seemed ominous.

“This is it,” Kunle said, his voice cold. “Stay close, and don’t say anything unless I tell you to.”

Amina nodded, her heart pounding. She wasn’t sure who or what they were about to face, but she knew that whatever came next would change everything.

They stepped out of the car, and Kunle led the way to the building’s entrance. The door creaked as they pushed it open, revealing a dimly lit interior. The room was sparse, with only a few chairs and a table in the center. A man sat at the table, his face shadowed by the dim light overhead. He was tall, wearing a dark suit and a pair of sunglasses that hid his eyes.

“This is the man I told you about,” Kunle said, his tone respectful but guarded.

The man didn’t move. He simply raised one hand in a slow, deliberate gesture, indicating that they should sit.

Amina hesitated for a moment before taking a seat. She didn’t know who this man was or what role he played in the dangerous world Kunle had brought her back into, but she had no choice. She was already too deep.

Kunle sat across from the man and exchanged a brief nod before speaking. “We need information. We need to know who’s behind the people coming after Amina.”

The man’s lips curled into a thin smile, but there was no warmth in it. “You should have stayed away, Kunle. But now you’re here, and you’re asking the right questions.”

Amina’s pulse quickened. This was it. The answers she had been searching for. But she had no idea if the truth would be what she expected—or if it would only drag her deeper into a nightmare.

The man leaned forward, his voice low and cold. “The truth, Amina, is much darker than you think.
